Winmx 2.6 WPNP network
Shared MP3 collections are getting cleaner, and complete.
and search getting faster too. I guess most of Winmx user moved to 3.1 and "good" people remain in 2.6? |

I think for now 2.6 will remain my mainstay, with 3.1 use being the alternate. I just don't see where 3.1 suits me much better. Both versions have their issues, naturally. Not everyone's moved over to 3.1 that will yet, but you may be right, HAL. I'm gonna ride with 2.6 as long as I can.

well, i guess i may have to re-install, but i do like that multi-source d/l'ing. i'm hoping it relieves wpnp congestion. won't help opennaps just yet but most of my uploads go out thru the winmx peer nets.

i'm sure we can find someone who's got 2.6 (like me for instance - 5/20/'01, 1.6 MB). then it's a matter of installing it to a different folder. shouldn't be that tough. i'd do it too but i'm sticking with 3.1 for a while. i haven't been much of a fan of 2.6 for over 6 mos. or more.

No problems here with 2.6
When I installed WinMx 3.1 I put it in its own folder WINMX3\ WINMX that left the existing WINMX (for 2.6) untouched, I still have both setup and runnable here.
I still have the last beta version setup too, so I can transfer server lists across. I aggree its sneeky to install in the same default location, would have been far better to have made it programfiles\winmx3 . Guss. |

I have three different WinMXs installed: 2.6 (primary), 3.0 BETA 8 (which I never use), and 3.1 (backup). They're of course all in different directories so each can be called upon when needed (though not simultaneously). I think many of us like to do that, keeping an older version of something around. I remember when moving from 2.1 to 2.5 after I got 2.5 I really didn't like it. Only after 2.6 came around did I move up. It could be the same situation with 2.6 and 3.1 - maybe I won't make a big switch until the next version, whenever it arrives.
So gr, you were able to get 2.6 back? |

At one time CyberAlien former developer of SlavaNap had coded a small program for testing purposes that would allow a person to run 2 instances of WinMX at the same time. A tool like this would be very handy right about now to search both 2.6 and 3.1 networks. If it wouldn't get abused? As I recall back in the days I used to run 2 instances of Audiognome to search both of the napster clusters

I think very handy is a moderately gross understatement. I'd just like to see how thet two stack up running at the same time. Running comparative analyses separately one can only infer; simultaneously would yield a better view, I believe. I could be wrong, though. *shrug*

I run 2.6 and tonight I can`t connect to the main one but i can connect to the low caps? I thought it may have been due to the no upgrade to 3.1?

Dude, use the NapMX-generated lists and the low-caps will become high-caps, ahem.
