ONLY in WinMX
Can you FIND a file with 100 potential multisources (yes folks that's one hundred sources) AND manage to ONLY get about 3.00 B/s from all of them combined!
Happy-Happy, Joy-Joy, NOT! That just burns me up! |

lol.
i have never used 'winmx' so i would like to hear others respones and views on this app. are your experiences also similiar? or do they differ with this app/proggy and i can't help it but for TankGirl would your idea of a 'dream app' include the ability to decide to function as a 'supernode' or hub. with the ability to control who connects to you as in manual mode or to be able to use some predefined ruleset that you create that would do one of two things: a)check for 'sharing' and set a criteria based on either 1)connection speed 2)amount of files shared or 3)combination of both 4)either or based on your preferences. then if you wanted to share only with 'certain' people you could go into manual mode and 'control the queues' or if you were not going to be present while functioning as a supernode or 'hub' you could set it to automatic mode based on the rulesets for it that you created in the above example. As far as 'validating' the identity of 'trusted peers' or sources.......i have not yet solved this problem and am uncertain if i will. I also still have problems working out the legality of such a client with RIAA and MPAA....it seems (sorry..i can't comment publicly about this) but what are your thoughts on this proposed feature? |

goldenrod, ur dial-up, right???
i am too and use winmx, exclusively. i find i have to connect to a few of them and find which knocks the other out, hence who's speed is fastest. as a 56ker, 6.50 is about as fast as i can ever get. i always check the "whois" and see if they may have many uploads and downloads. many in fact may be downloading one song, but may have 5 uploads, (those sweethearts). if there are only a few who have your particular song, u may have to "search" a few times, because of the mass of people in the world, "seconds" can mean the difference between 10 people and 20 people, who may have just signed on or off. i find 3 people may have my song and one minute later, hitting search again, there may be 10 more have it. it is a labour of love. patience always gets me the fastest. and i always get my song. happy hunting, hon!!!

eDonkey is even more frustrating. After getting 376MB of Men In Black in less than an hour it hit a wall...over 200 ppl with the movie in my queue but not 1 had any needed parts. It could take 2 weeks to complete. |

Are we talking about WinAmp 3.22? Seems to be very recent release!

WinMX used to be so good, I wonder what happened to it? I used to think it was *THE* miracle program. Alas. Edonkey has been a source of eternal frustration for me as well. I have a cable connection, and I consider myself blessed when I get over 1k (!) a second on that thing. I was downloading a rare, out-of-print game (which to edonkey's credit, it was the only program I could find it on) which took very close to a month to finally finish.
And the RIAA think's their decoy files are going to stop us?
