I've used it to download some trailers, and also for its perhaps most famous feature, to download Linux install CDs. There are actually search engines keeping track of torrents, but it's not a very popular application, and its P2P uses seem to be limited.

BitTorrent is almost certainly the fastest way to get a large file if an active torrent exists for that file and if you are able to find it. The torrents have relatively short life spans - and the same seems to apply to torrent link sites...
I have used the standard client, the experimental version of the standard client, BitTorrent++ and Burst. All but the standard client have bandwidth controls which are very useful, especially if you have some other p2p applications running at the same time. Of these four, Burst is my present favorite. - tg |

But not that Travolta guy, his head is mostly fat. The doctors said I am much smarter than John Travolta and I believe them. |

It's been mentioned fairly often. Burst is a fancy version of BitTorrent with alot more options than the original client. Shareaza also does BT in addition to eDonkey and Gnutella and G2.

the napsterite's search feature is limited to four or more characters so it's not going to pull up all the bittorrent posts because as it's been pointed out most people refer to it as bt. but it’s been mentioned here often. it was actually pretty hot stuff last year but i’ve noticed it’s cooled off lately. still it's worth considering – even if it’s not exactly as fast as the legends had it, but as another good tool in the p2p box.

I have used bt only a little. The last time I used it was to get a copy of Redhat Linux 9. I got tired of crappy performance and getting cut off from Redhat's site. I found a torrent with a number of complete copies online and had the whole set of CD's in under 3 hours.
The download was maxing out my 1.5 megabit DSL downstream. Simply Amazing.

They can all take their DRM, broadcast flags, rootkits, and Compact Discs that aren’t really compact discs and shove them up their bottom-lines. |

I like bt download speeds, but I don't like its search capabilities. I search for some pretty rare files form time to time and bt never finds them. If BT does find them it download in a heartbeat.

i wouldn't get too giddy about Suprnova, it's monitored relentless by the MPAA and RIAA, every instance i've heard about someone being busted for movie/mp3 trading through BT is because they were using Suprnova, i get all my torrents through private trackers to ensure i stay out of Federal Pound Me in The Ass Prison
