one of my favs, for sure. yes, u r right.....Peart is the bomb, drummer. but Geddy is an ace base player, u have to admit. i just think the three of them r pretty underrated. i just mentioned Alex....cause i think he's a pretty innovative guitarist.....and this was about guitarist, although the three of them were innovative...always a bit ahead of their time and willing to experiment with music. had all their lps, back in the day. what's your fav album/song?

Exactly right. Exchange one member and it's not the same sound. I play a lot of Lee's bass riffs, not nearly as good of course.
If I had to choose a favorite album... Hemispheres. Song... Red Barchetta - or maybe The Trees. (Red Barchetta is one of my particular favs to play guitar to.) |

i like the way it reads, a story being told directly to me. and the music matches this same story, exactly. also liked "YYZ" off the same. a great instrumental. but when u say "The Trees", well, i am quite pleased. "Anthem" or "Spirit of Radio", really shows off Lifeson's skills, but when u hear any song, each instrument is sooo clearly recognizable. and yet, blend together so well. they r mos def an awesome trio!!!!!!!!!

His guitar playing just get's better as he get's older. I think his last release, 1996's Spirit of the wild, is one of his best CDs. |

As far as an inspirational guitarist, it would have to be Joe Satriani.
Steve Vai is also a fav, but there's just something about Satriani's technique that inspires me to play more. Randy Rhodes was the inspiration for me to buy my first Bently Les Paul replica, Satriani was the inspiration to buy my first Ibanez and develop skill and motivate. Very interesting to watch in concert. |

I like Duane Allman's stuff. I understand that his licks are the leads in Layla (correct me if I'm wrong here). I am also very impressed by Derek Trucks' playing. Another mesmerising player for me with plenty of varied musical styles. His slide work is other worldy at times, particularly amazing for his age, 23.
For me, Hendrix is also up there. seemed to redefine the blues somehow. yeah, Red House.

redhouse on the other hand is all blues and all hendrix and an almost perfect example of pure standard blues handled with total confidence and joy by a guy at the the absolute peak of his power, as evidenced by the 14 min version on hendrix in the west. the only argument is where it was taped, the san diego sports arena or the royal albert hall. you'll get no argument about the playing. peerless. - js. |

Don't forget Brian May of Queen. Also, Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple. Oh! And Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top! Can't believe no one named him!

Brian Gibbons...? He's in the same class as George Thorogood... He'd be impressive if he played his leads on more than one string.
But seriously... ZZ Top and Thorogood demonstrate how good guitar music can be without the reckless solos. Pete Townsend mastered the style before anyone knew it existed. |
