Screwy What a RAGE !

I will tend to post a virus article if its new and i havent heard it mentioned any where
not insinuating that anybody would be careless enough to get it

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A new computer bug that tries to trick computer users into clicking on a virus-infected Web link masquerading as party photos emerged in Asia on Monday morning and began spreading to Europe and parts of North America, computer experts said.

The so-called "My Party" worm, which is not considered destructive, spreads by infiltrating popular e-mail software Microsoft Windows Address Book and Outlook Express Database.

The worm e-mails itself to every person in an infected users' e-mail log making it look as if the worm comes from a colleague or friend, experts said.

Antivirus specialist Trend Micro gave it a medium risk rating. Security firms said that compared with past e-mail worms, such as "Nimda" and "Sircam," the number of reported My Party infections thus far is moderate.

The virus arrives as an e-mail with the subject line "new photos from my party!." It contains an innocuous looking file attachment called www.myparty.yahoo.com.

A message in the body of the e-mail reads: "Hello! My party... It was absolutely amazing! I have attached my web page with new photos! If you can please make color prints of my photos. Thanks!"

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos Anti-Virus, said because it carries what appears to be an authentic link from the popular Web portal Yahoo! and appears to come from a colleague or friend, the worm has the potential to spread quickly.

Ian Hamroff, director of antivirus solutions at Computer Associates, told CNN that it's another example of "social engineering" or the techniques used to trick people. In the past, e-mail viruses and worms have promised such things as salacious photos and personal information.

"People should never let their guard down, even if it looks safe," Hamroff said. Computer Associates has rated the My Party worm a medium risk at this point.

Sophos has reportedly received reports of infection from corporate clients and academic institutions in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

also for those doing start files: (from museketeer)
2. Clean your free disk space.
KaZaA uses about 100Kb of your free disk space. But free disk space is not clean. It contains parts of files that have been deleted. When making a startfile this erased data becomes “active”. Part of video and music files are brought back to life. In a worst case scenario even a deleted virus can get activated and you spread it all around the planet in your startfile. Furthermore this data may prevent compressing the startfile to the smallest possible size.

Lets clean up the free disk space.
There a several programs that can be used. You can find them at
http://www.webattack.com/Freeware/se.../fwerase.shtml

We prefer to use Eraser because it cleans fast and Eraser has excellent features to keep the disk space clean.
Erasers homepage can be found at http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/

Eraser has several standard erase-options, but they are very time consuming. You can create your own method.

hate to dig up an old virus ......eek.....yelp..........whohoo
