Filesharing hasn't suffered at all because of this fiasco. FastTrack is almost as good as before and iMesh is booming, Gnutella has more users and the smaller programs are getting a big influx too.

A good point, Napho, and thanks for the link!

It seems a good shake up every now and again has overwhelming benefits for P2P networking. We're defiantly living in the never ending zenith of file-sharing, where every month it seems file-sharing reaches a level of unparallel achievement. As the RIAA and MPAA become less relevant and file-sharing reaches new planes of existence, just sit back for a second and remember these times.
I couldn't agree more. These 'shake ups' have proved very beneficial for p2p. They motivate people to find new software, join new communities, find new ways of sharing.

The p2p r/evolution is well beyond the point where it can be shut down with any reasonable control measures short of shutting down Internet. Individual service shutdowns like that of Napster's can harm companies but not people or their collections - they simply take their sharing resources to other meeting places, other sharing channels, other interesting communities. It's a perfect Darwinian playground for the best p2p software and ideas to rise above the competition and take their rightful place in this fantastic new digital ecology...
