Full KaZaa Uninstall - P2P-Zone

ok, a friend of mine with kids (naturally) has found herself the possesser of at least one, if not two kazaa pgms, and their resultant spyware, networkware, and headacheware etc on her pc. my job is to remove it all. never having been called to the task before (i've never installed kazaa on any machine, ever) i'd like advice on getting rid of it for good, along with all the stowaways that came along for the trip. i really don't want something lurking forever in the background. she has my cleaned version of grokster and that we'll keep.

JS; KaZaa is a pesky thing to get completely rid of ! I still have a few fragments remaining in registry, but am gradually eliminating them. In the main, what I did was first go to start|settings|control panel|add/remove etc., and knock out KaZaa. That stil left bits and pieces around, so I then uninstalled it through Norton Systemworks. And whatever spyware is not removed by ad-aware can be eliminated via B3D Killer (I'm not sure whence I downloaded this, but they have a url of www.security-pro.co.uk in their opening window). That pretty much gives KaZaa the boot, but you can run through registry afterwards and still find a few bits remaining. Even if you apply RegCleaner, it still leaves you with a bit of hand cleaning to do.

Nothing cleans out the registry better than Registry Crawler. A search takes less than 20 seconds.

JS, don't really do that...i'm just saying there is so much junk bundled with crapzah that the prolly best way to get rid of it is to reformat.

AFAIK, the Kazaa uninstaller sucks, but it's fairly easy to do manually.

1. Delete Kazaa folder
2. Delete HKCU\Software\Kazaa and HKLM\Software\Kazaa from the Registry
3. Use Ad-Aware to clean out the rest of the crap.

This leaves a few unimportant regkeys behind but nothing serious.

Spybot Search and Destroy sometimes finds things Ad-aware doesn't.

I'm going to have to reformat my hard drive & begin reloading. I had RegClean before. Do you feel Registry Crawler is better? Trying to decide whether to go with the free RegClean or the $30 Registry Crawler.

Check your PM. Reg Crawler allows you to search for things by name. When you uninstall programs they always leave fragments. Searching for the program name and company eliminates virtually everything. You need Reg Cleaner as well for general junk but it leaves behind many things when you delete a program from in there.

Just one question. Should I run Reg Crawler 1st & then run Reg Clean? What is Reg Clean picking up that Reg Crawler isn't?

(I guess that's 2 questions....but it's in one paragraph so I'll count it as one.)

Reg Cleaner is good for a general cleanup of the registry. Under tools/registry cleanup it gets rid of general junk. Under the list of installed programs you can get rid of most of the reg entries left by a program you've uninstalled.. Also it shows you the newest programs that have been installed just in case there's some spyware or whatever.
Reg Crawler is for getting rid of EVERY reg entry from an uninstalled program and comes in handy with an especially messy one. Also sometimes you have to manually get rid of a program for whatever reason and it lets you clear the registry in addition to you deleting the program folder.
