Soulseek/SLSK
soulseek.org seems to have been taken over by some net marketing ppl and the program doesn't work.
the new domain slsk.org has version 138, which is needed to connect to the network slsk

But not that Travolta guy, his head is mostly fat. The doctors said I am much smarter than John Travolta and I believe them. |

All you need to do is redirect the domain to this IP address: 195.74.211.135. Do a search files for "hosts", open with Notepad or another text editor, and add in the line "195.74.211.135 www.soulseek.org". I don't believe the program's been taken over by anyone; Nir is still doing a fine job as far as I know. At this point in time, it's my favorite p2p community. |

ok, the patch worked for version 137b - it had to go into hosts just like this:
195.74.211.135 www.soulseek.org now i get a curious update request each time i open the program - i decline. thanks mndeer, good one! - js. |

its my favourite p2p proggie too, and i wasnt suggesting the program had been taken over, just that the domain seemed to have expired (I heart nir)
I get this when i enter www.soulseek.org in my browser I did read the hosts workaround, but I'm far too stupid to figure it out slsk138 works for me

They've been upgrading versions a little too frequently for my tastes, though, as you lose all the songs you had queued and your user list. Somewhat of a bitch to do if the tracks are rare. But, nevertheless, it kicks ass.
Ps. The current domain is www.slsk.org |

A friend could register for you. Just delete the name/pw in the login config file, then register for you then reregister their name.

Multi--
I'm not certain if this is it, but did you try to indicate your share and download directories before trying to connect? Go to www.remmelt.org (soulseek forums) and do a search for linux, they may have those bases covered. |
