Default HMV boss agrees with music file sharing

Found this little gem amongst a news item.

HMV boss Alan Giles also addressed the conference and on a day that the British Phonographic Industry announced it was "declaring war" on downloaders who "routinely steal" music, he shrugged off the impact of digital downloading on CD sales.

"Around 2.6% of the US market is now using digital downloads but the CD album market has grown by 8%," he said. He insisted that downloading music actually expanded the market.

Thumbs up

Stuart Rose's (Marks & Spencer's chief exec) comment from the same article is also worth quoting: "The customer is always king and if we forget it, the consequences are deep, painful and long lasting." The RIAA and the MPAA seem to have forgotten this totally, subscribing passionately to 'the customer is always a thief' philosophy instead. And everything points to this causing deep, painful and long lasting consequences to them.
