Default what the f%ck

I live in Canada, and every blank cd/dvd/vhs tape/blank cassette/ mp3 player that i've purchased, I've paid a levied tax on(which supposedly gets paid to the artists((or the coyright holders))). Would I be wrong in assuming that i could dl some songs from, say, kazaa?
I mean, come on, you can't have your cake and eat it too(no-one else seems to be able too) . Is there any other fedederal tax that I have to pay that I might get sued over? what about medicare? If I think i might need to go to the doctor and he says it's not life threatening, does that give the hospital grounds to sue me?
