How To Get Opennap Servers On WinMX

For the benefit of anyone who uses WinMX but has never heard (or understood) about using Opennap servers, these servers can dramatically increase the number of people you can find who are sharing files.

To access them, under the Network tab click OpenNap Protocol Networks; this will open a mostly white screen. Then click on Find.WSX; this will take you to the Search screen and will show something like 'PUBLIC 20060707' in the search bar. This is the date, but I have found that the list is seldom up to date and you get no results, so change the date to show a few days in the past (in this example it might be 'PUBLIC 20060701') and click on Search. Hopefully this will give you some results. Download one or two different files.

Go back to the OpenNap Protocol Networks page and click on Import.WSX, select where you have stored the files you have just downloaded, click on one of them and open it. this should give you a long list of servers on the page. Repeat the same with any other of these files you may have downloaded.

Highlight all these red servers and click the Connect button. This will now begin connecting you to the OpenNap Network, allowing you to reach many more people like you who want to share files than what you could find on the Peer Network alone.
