Default RIAA should outmaneuver music pirates, not fight them

After a brief lull in the legal machinations of the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, it seems a new legal offensive in the war against those pesky Internet music pirates is on the way.

A report from The NPD Group, a New York-based marketing information company, shows that illegal music downloads increased during the last quarter of 2003, even as legal music downloads showed similar growth.

On Wednesday, the RIAA filed suits against 532 computer users who it says are illegally downloading and sharing copyrighted songs.

Though numerous legal outlets have surfaced to sell users online music files, many people are having a hard time saying no to free music, no matter that it puts them at risk of legal action from the recording industry.more..
