Default AltNet appears to be a success $$$

"While many shunned this venture as just another attempt for P2P companies to make a quick buck, newly released evidence from AltNet suggests that this network is a success".

could be right harby, it wouldn't surprise me if someone was book cooking. on the other hand overhead maybe so small that almost any income pushes them into the black. whatever it is, until file sharing is legitimized i see more of this down the road, not less.

thanks, Jack. I love reading your posts as always...and as i was using KaZaA the other day I was thinking of how remarkable it is....in that it works with much the ease of use of the Google search engine

but not only that it lets you narrow down your 'search results' or rather refine them base upon the criteria you supply for what you are looking for.

I still marvel at this that a 'non centralised' p2p file sharing network can return such accurate and meaningful results and i almost always well i have always gotten exactly what i want when i want it. no queues or anything.

jaan, can you comment on how the search works? how does it send out 'search requests' over the internet?

and also does anyone here use the non-cleaned version of KaZaA with the altnet still in place?

if so what have you noticed.

and one final question:

does anyone here use Aimster? or is it dead now?

thanks and hi lisa

well, i'm not allowed to discuss any tech details, but kazaa's search engine isn't anything special, really. the only reason why it seems to beat the competitors is the fact that kazaa is the only major network with decent metadata implementation. ie, there's much more searchable data per file than just the filename.
