WTF is up with these DALnet attacks?

For at least a month, distributed denial of service (define), or DDOS, attacks have been crippling DALnet, one of the world's largest Internet Relay Chat (define) networks, bringing it to its knees and raising the possibility that many hosting providers may refuse to host IRC servers at all.

this is so depressing. because i don't believe for a second this is the RIAA or the NSA or the CIA or the MPAA or any other of your favorite bad guy acronyms. this is the SFA (Stupid Fucking Assholes) on the loose. and i think the SFA are sometimes our worst enemy.

I've always suspected it'd be easy to bring down ALL IRC networks and P2P's as well as trolling for FTP's and eliminating many of those. Fortunately the RIAA and MPAA are used to going through law firms instead of utilizing vigilante actions.

A few worms on Fasttrack did minor damage. Multiply that by 10,000 or even 100,000 and I believe worms, trojans, and virii CAN do harm to even a decentralized network. I doubt anyone will ever go that far but if they did who knows what the result would be?
