Default Would you pay $$$ to jump the queue?

These guys at Soulseek can pay $5 a month for "privileges".

I guess it's better than 'we're poor starving p2p programmers, give us money'.

they forgot one thing. all those privileged downloaders are getting their files from someone, and that someone is probably a non-privileged uploader. as this is a fine way to create bad feelings within the community (you can upload from me without waiting but I can’t from you etc), i'd steer away from this sort of practice. it goes against the spirit of file sharing and will lead to fragmentation as well. besides, for a few more bucks you might as well be an riaa sanctioned site. no thanks.

I'm using soulseek almost constantly now, its always crashing but I love the content ...

The programmer, nir, needs the money for food, rent, bills ... all the things he prolly skimped on while coding the client ...

But I won't be contributing soon ... Aside from the fact that I've got no money , I was pretty close to becoming an audiogalaxy gold member last month (I held off for financial reasons) ... and thank fuck I didn't. And Audiogalaxy was a p2p heavyweight.

If I have some money this winter and soulseek is still around and I'm using it as much as i am now, I may contribute. I'd much prefer to install a server client on my machine and contribute that way, but if the server needs a few dollars to keep operating, I wouldnt mind. It will still be a risky bet, tho.

I’ve been a little down because today my doctor diagnosed me with John Travolta Syndrome. It’s a condition where your face or head grows laterally, getting wider year by year. It’s not so much of a problem and it’s nothing to be ashamed of, it’s just a condition. In fact mine is good because it means my brain is getting bigger too. But not that Travolta guy, his head is mostly fat. The doctors said I am much smarter than John Travolta and I believe them.

I wouldn't, but if there are others that would, thats their choice.

paypal is great and neutral to support your favorite p2p author. it's always an option.

i know, there're issues with paypal. write 'em a check or a money order.

seriously, if the only problem is getting money to a prefered author, then that's not much of a problem at all.

Well, the payments ARE monthly, which means you're out at most 5 bucks if the enterprise folds. I'd probably pay a little bit for winmx, but those guys worry me for some reason. Too good of an app, with no spyware, adware or anything else. Makes me wonder what they have up their sleeve.
