FAQ’s about MusicCity and Content Wrapping:

How much do Artists get paid?
Artists keep 70% of the gross sale of their work.

When do artists get paid?
Checks will be sent out monthly to artists for the sale of their work.

Can people burn CD’s from the file they download?
When a user downloads your music, it becomes an application that can only be opened inside of the Morpheus application. They cannot burn a CD from this file.

Will they be able to download the artists’ artwork?
Yes. As part of the download file, a PDF of the artwork and liner notes will be included.

Will the file be CD quality?
Yes. The file will be encoded at 320kbs. which is CD quality.

How long does it take for the music to appear on MusicCity.com?
After we receive an artists’ submission form, if accepted their material will appear within two weeks.

What does rules-based mean?
Rules based means that StreamCast allows the artists to set a specific set of rules surrounding their content. For example, artists can set it so that a consumer may listen to their song twice. On the third time the consumer tries to listen to the song and a message will appear notifying the buyer that to listen to it again, it must be purchased.

How do user’s pay for the content?
Consumers will pay for the content through an e-commerce site.

Who sets the pricing for the album?
The artist is completely in control of setting the pricing and rules for their content. StreamCast recommends that a single song be sold for .99 cents and an album for $8.00 US dollars.

It's not a matter of just renaming it. It seems to be implied that the files are mp3, but they're wrapped so only Morpehus (for now can read them. It'll be cracked soon enough. If not, that's why god invented fake sound card device drivers (aka sound capture drivers).

Total Recorder

"Total Recorder Standard Edition records streaming audio, mic input, line-in input, and DVD and CD sounds. The recordings are saved to the PC's hard-drive in either WAV(compressed or uncompressed) or MP3 format. Convert different sound formats to WAVE and MP3."

I've used Total Recorder and essentially they are fake drivers; you tell Windows to map through Total Recorder; then use the proggie to record whatever you need.

As assorted mentioned, Total Recorder is what you want. It's very cheap (as is a lot of this type of nifty utility software), so suport the makers and pay for it. The principle behind it is very simple:

- it installs a virtual device driver, in this case a sound card.
- under Control Panel -> Sounds & Multimedia -> Audio you can select the default sound playback device. Set it to the virtual device.
- proceed as before.

A special configuration application will interface with the virtual device and you can have it record everything it receives to a wav file. It will also pass on the sound stream to the regular sound card, so you still get to hear everything just fine (with a little bit of lag though).

Until such time as the sound stream is encrypted all the way between the application and speakers, recording the actual audio played will always be possible this way.

If they want to do it legit. I suggest they do it Spanish Style like Weblisten does.

I especially like their Bononight voucher. Unlimited downloading for little more than a dollar.
You need to understand a little Spanish, but it’s one great way to score full albums of major artists.

The average downloadspeed is 60K (max for my modem)

They are planning to release Bononight at the English section starting from April

I agree it has nothing to with file sharing, but this kind of legit musicservice has future. No protections and limitations. They sure beat that crummy Pressplay and Musicnet.
