Default The old trick workds - how to remove popop windows from sharereactor

First, if you want sharereactor.com to be your default page in eDonkey 2000 - you'll need this file (just rename it to .exe and run it):

http://www.magicalcheese.com/smoketo...reactorify.doc

Then add the following websites to your explorer restricted sites (click left on explorer icon, properties, security, restricted sites:

http://www.7host.com
http://www.onresponse.com
http://www.404errorpage.com (I'm not sure about this)
http://www.my-stats.com

(I got the idea it might work from old morpheus trick to remove popop adds from morpheus. The credit goes to whomever posted that trick on the old forum)

there are more adds it seems. so add to restricted sites the followings also:

http://media.popuptraffic.com
http://www.cellularphones.com
http://www.7adpower.com
http://server01.popupmoney.com
http://server01.popupmoney.com

It seems these are multiplying - if anyone has any idea for the source please help (I think there is a source website that is contacted and delivers the ads, since first a site appears, immediately minimized, then the ads)

No intention to bump this > since it does not work . At fitst I thought it does, since popop stopped for a few minutes (or rather clicks) but that was just natural I guess. Oh well...

it's already posted somewhere - just can't find the link
hows about adding the url's to your hosts file.

windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

0.0.0.0 media.popuptraffic.com
0.0.0.0 www.cellularphones.com
0.0.0.0 www.7adpower.com
0.0.0.0 server01.popupmoney.com

if you use a proxy - add the address to the noproxy url.

TCPIP first tries to resolve ips from the local hosts file.
if it's 0.0.0.0 it doesn't even go further (this was posted by some NU)

Thanks guys, that should solve the problem... Only I found several local hosts files (and a link to another popup post - http://www.napsterites.net/undergrou...&threadid=9838). I forgot to mention that I'm on Win 98se - but still... One hosts file is hosts.sam and the other is hosts (without extension) and both are in the windows main directory - I think I'll edit both, only I don't know what to write before address: 127.0.0.2 or 0.0.0.0. I think I'll just try to figure it out... Thanks for your help again.

normally
127.0.0.1 ads.any.com
is the local default ip of your computer and if the browser tries to connect, it get something like access denied. i read in some other post that this can also result in a popup window sometimes saying something like "server not found" or "error". the same source said the solution is, to set the ip to
0.0.0.0 ads.any.com
then the browser doesn't even try to connect and nothing happens at all.
i set it to 0.0.0.0 and it works - but i really cannot tell if there is a difference.
