there was a bug with the --alt-preset standard (fast) preset that affected the quality. now its fixed. yay to that!!

schmooky007 what is your favorite command line??

I'm still stuck on this -b 256 -m s --lowpass 19.5 -q 0 (can't hear 20) but a few can

or this

for VBR --r3mix

I haven't played much with any others (fast) presets for example as mine have always done a good job.

the one i use most is --alt-preset extreme

the majority of people should use --alt-preset standard instead of the old --r3mix switch. sound quality will be significantly better than --r3mix and the bitrate remains quite compact. on average it'll be between 180 and 220kbits

--alt-preset extreme sounds "cleaner" than the --standard preset because it uses a different ath curve. with the --extreme preset however, the bitrate will be much higher, anywhere between 230 and 270kbits

Thanks I was just starting to read up on some of the newer options. Being it has been awhile since the Lame had done updates since the last few days I never really realized --r3mix was that out of date. Thanks for the input
