Quote:
WASHINGTON, March 23 — Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and senior advisers discussed the plan to remove seven United States attorneys at a meeting last Nov. 27, 10 days before the dismissals were carried out, according to a Justice Department calendar entry disclosed Friday.

The previously undisclosed meeting appeared to contradict Mr. Gonzales’s previous statements about his knowledge of the dismissals. He said at a news conference on March 13 that he had not participated in any discussions about the removals, but knew in general that his aides were working on personnel changes involving United States attorneys.
"appeared to contradict" = Gonzales lied again. it should be a rule of thumb by now that Bushies need to be under oath because they are, shall we say, so careless with the truth.

my predictions of his political demise were premature - but by how much?

another of the many reasons why this is a real scandal and why it matters:

Quote:
"I spent more than 35 years in the department enforcing federal civil rights laws -- particularly voting rights. Before leaving in 2005, I worked for attorneys general with dramatically different political philosophies -- from John Mitchell to Ed Meese to Janet Reno. Regardless of the administration, the political appointees had respect for the experience and judgment of longtime civil servants.

Under the Bush administration, however, all that changed. Over the last six years, this Justice Department has ignored the advice of its staff and skewed aspects of law enforcement in ways that clearly were intended to influence the outcome of elections." - Joseph Rich, Justice Department's civil right division, voting section chief 1999-2005

Tsk, how petty but at least now you can focus on the main target of your spite; Karl Rove.

Look up-"whoosh"-missed it.(da smilies)

You mean the dems aren't going to pursue "justice" after all their claims against him just because he left office? What kind of principles does that reveal?

With no "villians" to "confront" now for the benefit of their dimwitted constituencies how will they ever deceive them into thinking they're worth a shit?

Gonzales Quits, Bush Appoints Rove Attorney General

by Scott Ott

(2007-08-27) — Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales submitted his letter of resignation over the weekend to President George Bush, who today announced he’ll fill the post with departing White House adviser Karl Rove.

The president said he selected Mr. Rove because “he meets the major qualification for the job by being one of the few unemployed, longterm Bush cronies available at the moment.”

Mr. Rove said he’s honored to accept the appointment to such a prestigious position, and he hopes he can “be effective at the attorney general’s main job which is to answer accusatory questions posed by Democrat lawmakers about perfectly legal activities.”

Mr. Gonzales, who has devoted the last year to fending off allegations that he fired eight political appointees for political reasons, said he’s leaving to “spend more time with family, away from the burden of a regular paycheck.”

He plans to write a tell-all memoir about his years at the justice department, tentatively entitled: “I Had No Idea.”

that sounds just about right.

when asked this afternoon about his resignation, Gonzales said he has no recollection of resigning this morning.
