Default How do you pick your mixes?

Just curious how other people pick the mix of songs they put together when they make their own cd's...do you do it by artist or genre or mood or what? Or do you just throw a bunch of songs together on a cd, and if so, do you find that some mixes flow way better than others?

I tend to keep them together in 2 categories. Fast and slow. Other than that, anything goes.

Its strange. When I used to buy cd's, I knew i'd buy it for a few songs unless the whole album was good, then it was a bonus. With the downloading of music files knowing I can d/l any single i want, I wind up downloading and burning full cd's of an album even though I may not care for the songs on that album. I mostly burn full albums and some random mixed cd's. No particular way I make mixed cd's. I just put my favorites together and make a cd. I thought I'd burn more mixed cd's than full cd's but that's not the case.Maybe having a cable connection gives me the luxury to d/l fulll tracks. If i was using pstn, maybe I'd make more best of's....Go figure.

You're right - that's strange.

That's what is so liberating about mp3's...not having to fast forward to the good songs...and never again getting burned by buying a cd with 1 or 2 good tracks and 10 bad ones.

well I usually go with my mood. I like all types of music so i like to throw them all up in there. I'm into dl and burning whole cds now.

All my tracks are cued for easy access anyway. I agree with you. What's nice about burning your own mp3's, you make them the way you want them.

I usually do it by band or by type....sometimes by bass(gotta test out the system).

Other than that, I just take whatever I keep in my winamp playlist and burn what I can to CD

it's all hosted on assorteds FTP so you could try going in direct via the FTP address (i believe its on the home page)...failing that there is a bot serving the mixes in #nusounds on irc.ctcp.net

edit : just noticed the bot has disappeared....assorteds connection must be fucked

edit #2 : all seems to be back to normal now

this may sound a little bit crazy, but i let the CD talk to me. generally i try to do CDs with the same genre, but i'm more keen on the "feel whats suppose to come next" approach. if you're a dj, then you probably use a similar concept to mix the tunes

I go by "feel" as well but sometimes it doesn't always work out as well as I think it will...I burn stuff primarily for playing in the car, and if I find myself forwarding past some tracks to get to others, that tells me that i didn't quite get it right
