eDonkey and Low ID
I have posted this question on to two other forums with little help. You seem to be a much smarter group of people so I will thought I would post it here.
Any help is appericated. Thanks in advance. Here is the deal. When I connect to an eDonkey Server I get lowid most of the time. If I click on the eDonkey server I want and look at the connection info. It tells me that port 4664 is not open. It could not connect to server xxx. BUT does return an many digit id to me!!!! If I click on that server again to connect. eDonkey reports that I am already connected to the server. I am able to download from the server at 30KB/s, but this sucks compared to cable modem bandwidth. My question are the following. 1. Is the id assigned by the eDoneky Servers or by the client? 2. If I can download, does that imply that my ports are opened? 3. Is there any way to fool the id status? 4. Is there something my ISP is doing to force the lowid? 5. What is the max download speed others have been able to achive with eDonkey? |

30K is fast for edonkey. I'd have been delighted if I got those speeds when I used to use it.

http://www.edonkey2000.com/documentation/lowid.html There is no way that I have heard of to fool the ID status. Some ISP's mainly in the UK are blocking popular ed2k ports "4662" Ed2k is a network for people with patience. Don't expect lightning fast speeds. Mine typically run around 20Kb as a total between all files. In plain english it will take about 1-2 days to download 700mb if there is alot of sources. But there has also been times when I have gotten a full cd in about 6hrs averaging well over 100k.
