The creators of Benjamin have stated there reasoning was as a form of protest in regards to kiddy porn and pirated software.

I can see the kiddy porn point. As for piracy, I am glad there are people policing file sharing services like kazaa. God knows if it wasnt for a virus like Benjamin I would be downloading cracks and keys like crazy.

Dust means to pad a file so it seems more like a legit app. Timmay.

sorry spstn if i offended you i was just going by what Pod and incidentally don't let a high post count fool you...those 2000 posts could have been idiotic and moronic comments. lol

although in the case of Jack Spratts and my very little knowlege of him i would say that is definitely not the case.

i only have one problem with him and that is that he is a yankee were it not for this..he would be almost perfect

The point is not to avoid the writing of files to the folder but to see if the trojan try to overwrite the folder already there. If it does may be could be stopped from doing so. Some programs ask during installation about folders already there and need an OK to proceed. I don't think this one does that. But anyways, this worm is more bothersome than worrisome. The host file trick should work fine, though.

I posted the info about GoBack for a few minutes and then re-edited the post and left only two tiny Oks. The post was so watered down to comply with the forum netiquette that didn't make much sense.
Do a google search for GoBack or Roxio and go from there. No matter how exagerated their claims sound, in reality it works better. Just go to the knowledgebase in the support section and look for any incompatibility with your rig. Other than that you can't go wrong.

Ps.: Offended ? Are you kidding me?; the last line about the difference between the two file types depleted my brain of serotonin for the foreseeable future...

IMO if you download an executable file from P2P network and run it without checking then you deserve to be infected
It is not like this trojan is executed automatically, it subsist on stupid people who start it

A CLEANER PROGRAM for the BENJAMIN WORM on KAZAA

if anyone has it...download this zip file...open it with winzip or similiar unzipping program and double-click on the program to run it..this will get rid of it for you

According to one of its developers, Paul Komoszki, Benjamin is a "controlled test" of a program designed to disrupt the illegal exchange of copyrighted data and child porn over peer-to-peer networks.

"We do not want to affect the exchange of legal programs and legal music files. Only users who are looking for and sharing copyrighted files could be infected," said Komoszki in an e-mail interview today.

Yeah, I guess that's why they included the redirect to the site in germany with the pop-up ad that generated lots of cash for them; at least until their domain got killed for abuse.

I really hope these asswipes get some jail time so they can get to know " Bubba".
