Big Wheeling Grin spyware-free Grokster 1.6 out now!!!

Dr. Damn (of clean clients fame) has come out with a clean, self-contained, spyware-free installer of Grokster 1.6, the filesharing program that accesses the FastTrack P2P network along with Kazaa, KazaaLite & iMesh.

His homepage:
http://cleanclients.tk

He can't find a host for this file so is sharing it on the FastTrack network.

His Sig2Dat Link for this file, to get it off FastTrack using your existing client and Indy's Sig2Dat:
grokster160.exe, 924KB

This is a rare file at the moment, and is still saying 'more sources needed' for me.

Just get this file and run it. It will install Grokster 1.6 without the spyware/adware like Cydoor, Gain etc. (unlike the official installation).

(more info on how to use Sig2Dat Links now at Sig2Dat For Idiots)

twinspan, could you tell me the changes that have been made since 1.5.1, which is the last post-1.3.3 version I used? Did anyone else use Grokhak 1.3.3? Personally, I prefer KL as I have no problems with finding sources & connecting even without using FTA. I believe that Grokster clients (unlike with iMesh) connect to overtaxed Supernodes or at least to ones that are "at the edge of the leaf" so to speak. Searching, connecting & transfers are slower & more troublesome for me. Kazaa may have spyware, but KL at least has reliability & speed as its main feature. I might use it again if you could give me a very good reason to switch!

BTW did you get sig2dat working with Opera? I believe the solution is to edit your Operax.ini file, or at least that's what I read. I don't use Opera myself, so I'm not entirely sure what your problem is.

I've gotten sig2dat to work with opera. The instructions worked fine.

differences in 1.6
Not much. Basically extended searches.
The official take: http://www.grokster.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/43.html

y not post UTC
heck! after all the trouble they got from Grokster Inc. after posting Damn's clean 1.5.1, I just didn't think they'd have it.

sig2dat links in Opera
The .ini edit makes sig2dat:// a recognised type of link for Opera. But...
I get 'more sources needed' permanently. Indy resolved the issue of space rendering in URLs, but Opera still renders all letter in URLs as lowercase, wheras FT hashes are a mix of upper & lower, and the system IS case-sensitive. So the client is looking for a file with a hash that doesn't exist.
So either I copy/paste text hash, or fire up IE for quick links.
So far (haven't really studied it) but Mozilla seems to work with Quick Links and doesn't alter the cases.

Y grokster instead of other FT client?
well, horses for courses I guess.

Kazaa has BDE Altnet Cloudload Cydoor etc. KazaaLite doesn't have them in the install, but then you have to take extra steps and be constantly vigilant that the malware isn't snuck back on somehow.

iMesh (trying the clean version) looks nice, seems quite configurable, turns up results... but doesn't find sources for me to download from! I'm sitting there with the files seeming permanently queued, whereas if I transfer to Grokster, source found in under a minute and d/l'ing it v. fast as I speak.

I have managed to dl something off iM once, a tiny song file I used just to test iM was really working; but for the files I really want, iM won't find sources before I run out of patience.
