Lightbulb Direct Connect headed toward 100.000 users

DirectConnect Marches Toward 100,000
Monday, March 11, 2002

DirectConnect has been a long time favorite of the P2P community. Since its conception, DirectConnect maintained a humble existence -never growing too large to attract the RIAA's attention, yet remaining large enough to preserve a loyal following.

DirectConnect has changed little since it was introduced. Its network architecture remains an eDonkey/OpenNap style community centered around independent servers. Download are mono-source, and searches are limited to one hub (or server) at a time - giving more of a nostalgic IRC experience rather than a cutting edge P2P adventure.

Despite these rather minor semantics, DirectConnect performance more than makes up for any short comings. When this article was written, the DirectConnect network had a whopping 1,700 TB (Terabyte) of information, which is actually 35% more than FastTracks 1,100 TB (Terabyte) of resources.

Here's a tutorial
