Default Database.....

Does anyone use Access for their music database...(I've just about had it up to here with Access)...altho it's ideal to use.

or is their a good program that will.....

I'm looking to enter my cd's in by title, artist category, format and track listing...and that being said when all is said and done...generate reports...

list all CD's, DVD's, MP3's for a particular artist
list all TRACKS for a particular artist (all formats & categories)
list all according to FORMAT, cd, mp3, dvd etc..
list all for CATEGORY, rock, pop alternative....etc...

I tried the database that Microsoft provides for Access, and it's not quite the reports I'm looking for.....it's pretty cheezy really for Access.....Excel is doing that for me now.

Thanks

I gotta, it's a royal pain in the arse when going to make a cd for myself or friends and they pick out the 15/20 songs they want...instead of having to... trial and error find, I like to hit the find the first time. I just think all things have their place...and it's easier if these things are in the 'right' place....

Organized I have all my commercial cd's in alphabetical order, in the cd tower/shelf unit.....the ferrets, Nikki and Ambi like to push em off shelf by shelf and bulldoze thru em...and there I am again, puttin' them all back in order...will I ever learn

I don't have a clue if this is what you want because I'm a digital slob but I just saw this a few seconds ago.

Thank for taking the time to read and respond Napho...I've been to the site and it looks to me like a 'player' of sorts...not really what I am looking for....

I really think Access is probably my best bet....but I loathe the thought.

PS: If I come up with this ideal setup in Access, you will all be welcome to it

Thumbs up

Maybe some cataloging software helps. This is the best by far -> WhereIsIt. It has plugins for various media files, extensive search capabilities and a report generator as well. I'd be completely lost without it.

I did find a nice program called Music Catalogue Master along with a serial....I've kept both the program and serial should anyone be interested....PM me...a la Waste she goes....

You put in your commercial cd's...voila all info is added thru the CDDB....you can enter records manually when it comes to those MP3 disks....but the track count only goes to 99..

I recall alot of other info loaded in as well..notes, artist info etc..

(For you savvy programmers, maybe you could boost the input count up to a high number such as 500) On the other hand, that may be able to be done thru Access...as I had noticed that this program made use of my Access, so I might be able to re-define the track count per CD....But for any of you interested in the program, I don't think you need Access on your system for the program to work..

Back to the limited track count per CD.....Say for ex. you have 120 songs on the MP3 CD, after 99 count it keeps adding as track 10...not overwriting, but you would end up with 99 tracks and 22 ( track 10's) make sense?

Then I thought I would ditch it for now...I will hang onto the proggie. All the while I was speaking of a small HD well after loading in like 25 commercial CDs and an MP3 disk, I realized the end resulting file size would be fairly massive, and in tracking my music in that way, it's not so much geared for others to view my listing.

For the time being, I will keep my database restricted to Excel...it's fairly simple and besides I can shove it into a text file quite easily for others to view my listing.

Thanks for all your help tho....

I was hoping to find a program, that wasn't overly flairy...so that I could load in all commercial CDs and MP3 disks, and run:

All by Artist which lists (ALL tracks) and (source CD for the track)
All by Genre
All by Format

I would be happy with just the above 3 reports. I don't need a report on year, price, where purchased...yadda yadda, yadda....

MS Access would be relatively easy..... for every Commercial CD there normally is 1 artist to many songs....BUT...by throwing in MP3 CD's...you have (Many to Many) which makes the database a bit more challenging to build...thinking somewhere I need a (junction table) (to combine One to Many & Many to Many) laymans terms: so that MP3's and Commercials can be merged/listed into one report per se

I think I'm thinking too hard and it's beginning to hurt

Anyway.....many thanks to all of you
