Default Some news on Ad-aware

For those Napsterites who have been concerned about the lack of recent updates on Ad-aware, here's some news which puts a new light on the situation:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index...=ST&f=1&t=1868
so it looks as if we shall just have to be patient a little longer, doen't it?

I hope you've been using Spybot Search and Destroy since Adaware has become neutered. This is better than Adaware anyway. Spyware is more insidious than ever!

no kidding, indeed....

i just reformatted last weekend, and still came up with 97 items...most of it BackWeb stuff, prolly off the HP recovery disk i used...

which means it's been there for years and AdAware never caught it

thanks for the link, Nap - again!

I also like this little tool! Keeps those nasty activex boxes from popping up!!

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html

Quote:
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

How? By setting a "kill bit" for the CLSIDs of spyware ActiveX controls, it prevents the installation of any of them from a webpage. You can run Internet Explorer with Active-X enabled, but you will never even get a "Yes/No" box popped up, asking you to install a spyware Active-X control (Internet Explorer will never download or run it!). All other Active-X controls or plug-ins will work fine.

The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware Active-X controls. Make sure you run the Check For Updates feature frequently to get the latest database! (And make sure you check the new items to protect your system against them!)

As a side benefit, setting this "kill bit" will also prevent the spyware Active-X from running, in many cases, if it is already installed on your system.*

Default And Ad-aware has finally introduced an update

But, thanks to napho, I shall not bother to re-install Ad-aware's new version - SpyBot S&D is light years better, so I'm sticking with it
