this Jeff Gannon story just gets juicier - he's the fake reporter the White House gave a press pass to, in order to seed the briefings with Bush-friendly questions...

With the mystery of "Jeff Gannon" deepening, Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., yesterday renewed her call for the White House to explain its relationship with a conservative ex-reporter linked to an online gay escort service.

hmmm....now, who in the White House might have come across a guy who runs a gay online escort service? and where? i mean, the Prez looks pretty straight and does that macho Texas thing, but maybe he's just compensating, no? true , Ari Fleischer was always a little effeminate, and certainly the chicken hawks like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz are promising candidates to be closet cases (i can hear Rumsfeld now: .."except for this one time at Camp David" )...

The White House has denied any special relationship with Gannon. But it has not provided an explanation of its policies on providing credentials to reporters, either the temporary "day" passes for reporters not normally assigned to the White House or the so-called permanent hard passes that White House beat reporters get.

since the guy has been attending White House press briefings under an assumed name, we can assume he does indeed have a "special relationship" - otherwise, how would he get in? but how "special"? and with whom? it boggles the mind

actually, the gay hooker angle is irrelevant (unless, of course, his access was tied to his extra-curricular activites ) - adds some color and comedy, but that's all..

the legitmate question is how a guy using a false name, without proper credentials, gets access to the White House, actually gets to ask the Prez questions, and apparently, has advance notice of some of the biggest stories of the moment, such as the commencement of hostilities in Iraq, before they happen

i think the answer is: he's doing somebody with high access. very high. if he was a she it would be a given almost. what makes it irritating to me is the admin's hypocrisy on gay issues, assuming of course he didn't just wander in there without greasing somebody's skids. play ball with them and life is sweet regardless of your behaviour and their public stance on morality, don't and they sic all types of monsters on your ass. you're a good gay man when you're under thier thumbs. seemed obvious already but now maybe it'll dawn on others too. at some point it'll have to, hence the badda bings. the only question is whether the evangelicals will tolerate this for the greater of good of having their druggy mythology affirmed at the highest levels of power or will it get a rise out of them also. my guess: somebody resigns, all is forgiven, and it's back to business as usual: writing homo-hounding bills for congress and statehouses and more buster-bashing from the admin's drama queens, all slathered up with phony god and familly sanctimony like a cheap hooker's war paint.
