Default brilliant/altnet coming this week?

i am hearing rumors that altnet, the peer to peer software that is hidden in kazaa, is set to launch this week.

i am already seeing reports from users that they are finding MUCH less people on the network recently.

does anybody have any links about this situation that have current information? i tried both kazaa and altnets websites but not suprisingly there is very little about the launch date on either one.

they're only sending components from partner topsearch today, but the network won't be switched on until sometime this summer, with selected supernodes slated to handle the first traffic.

i posted the following query at groksters' main board/general. we'll see how they respond and in what detail.

"Altnet, BDE, Brilliant Digital, Sharman, Fasttrack,

Now that the hidden spyware network Fasttrack/Altnet has begun delivering selected partner components (story: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,100064,00.asp), it would be a great time for Grokster Support to reaffirm they're still not participating in the secondary network.

Even though Grokster continues to be a major part of Fasttrack and will presumably help transfer many of those Altnet files in question as a part of its' everyday traffic (or not?), will Grokster users be involved in some way in Brilliant Digitals' secondary network? Will some of those selected components be placed in Grokster users' PCs for instance?

From today onward a lot of people would like definitive answers and updates from Grokster.

Thanks,

they look it over first before posting it. like the (very) old morpheus boards did. sometimes they get lost. critical posts sometimes get lost a lot.

It's Up. Here's their response:

From Grokster Support
"RE: Altnet, BDE, Brilliant Digital, Sharman, FastTrack"
In response to message #0

LAST EDITED ON May-20-02 AT 08:12 PM (GMT)

We still do not have any Brilliant Digital or Altnet software bundled in with Grokster. As we understand it, without us changing the code in Grokster to accept this additional "network", Grokster users will not see the paid results that Altnet will provide. We currently have no plans to bundle the Brilliant Digital or Altnet software with Grokster. Even if we were to do so at some point in the future, it would be disclosed in the upgrade and/or download with an opt-out box available to opt-out. All software currently bundled with Grokster can be opted-out of during the install except Cyddor, which is our ad serving software.

Without the Brilliant Digital or Altnet software, nothing can be installed on a Grokster user's computer to use excess CPU cycles or store special files, etc.

Kazaa gave me a rash.............

Grokster gave me the willy nillies..............

How much R they offering Napho?

Not saying my love can't be bought. BDE and friends just haven't sweetened the pot enough for my tastes.
