Thanks Napho. An interesting new application, certainly worth giving a go. An open source project with Windows, Linux and Mac clients available - not bad!

The routing solution resembles Freenet somewhat, although there is no pushing of content into the network in the same sense as in Freenet.

As all traffic is routed through other nodes (to hide IP numbers) there is an inevitable bandwidth cost - so don't expect as fast downloads as with applications using direct file transfers. The network architecture also seems to be essentially flat (no supernodes) so it might not scale too well over a few hundred nodes.

Anyway, MUTE is a nice new introduction to the p2p scene, making life yet again a little bit harder for the copyright nazis.
