Default DVD's of movies when they're in theaters

Where do you guys usually get these movies? Through file-sharing programs?

I usually just give up and buy them off the streets =P

What's the best place to get these movies at?

DVDs? You mean DVD quality or just something that could be burned onto a DVD?

You need to find your way around IRC to get the movies early. DalNET is pretty popular for this sort of thing. Just look for the channels with 1000s of people on them. Later on the releases will also find their way onto newsgroups and file sharing networks. Although the files are usually of poor quality, VHS at best, sometimes you will get pretty good rips of screener and preview DVDs, with obvious warnings at the bottom of the screen.

There are no DVD rips of movies that are still in theaters most of the time - the DVD rips appear the moment DVDs of the movie are released, unless a DVD Screener (not cam, screener, the one with those obvious warnings) is released first. I have a DVD screener rip from LotR, which is just as good as a DVD rip.

You need to avoid the VCD rips and cams, which are just recordings of a movie with a camera in the theater. Cams usually have more people in there, so the movie is constantly saturated with talking, laughter and other shit. VCD rips are pretty much the same, except there are no other people. The video quality still sucks though.

If you really want good quality, wait until the DVD is out, then search for the DVD rip. This can take a few weeks - I saw several (multiple-CD) VCD rips of Blade 2, and only after 3 weeks the DVD rip appeared.
If you can do with less quality, look for the VCD and cam versions, which are out way sooner.

You can get good high quality DVD rips from movies out in theaters. These are not technically DVD rips, but they are much higher quality than regular CAMs and other forms of recordings that you find on networks such as FastTrack. These rips surface first on IRC usually the day of the release if not a few days before. About 2 days later, they surface on Newsgroups. For the not so advanced P2P user, wait about a week and they surface on regular P2P networks. They first surface on eDonkey and later on down the road on networks such as gnutella, FastTrack, and OpenNap. eDonkey is actually a very good program for finding newest releases of movies and software and the like. Releases are usually on there just a day or so after IRC and Newsgroups. If you don't like using IRC or Newsgroups, download eDonkey and go to ShareReactor.com to find links to the newest DVD rips, screeners, and software. I got a very good quality of Star Wars 2 a whole week before it came out in theaters from eDonkey. Enjoy :~)

also look for TeleSync ("TS"), usually higher quality than cams.

also check out http://www.vcdquality.com for new releases, also has a screen cap from the file so you can see for yourself the quality.
