it's always been a small mesh but it's still running - it's never stopped. not sure why you can't connect.

always an issue with waste. takes some dedication to maintain mesh connections. no question a negative for small public networks it's one of the real postive aspects at private ones.

Default Why Not Upgrade?

I have a small group using 1.5b2 exclusively, maybe thats half of your connection problems? If anyone wants to try it I will trade keys and set up a separate profile for just this purpose, same concept as your original Zer0share Its up to you, I only recently found this group and I don't want to step on anyones toes, I am just excited about the potential of waste.

Ok, I went back and checked the past threads (shoulda done it first!) and see some discussion about upgrading, so why not start a Zer0Share1.5 mesh and as people upgrade they can switch over. At least its less hectic than dual installs for most.

I set the name for now to Zer0Share15b2-1

Just for ha ha's For those of us on 1.5b2 that maybe what some people problem connecting were. I also talked to someone who got 1.5b2 to go backwards compatible still wondering about that one!

Thanks,

WC

i'm thinking about a new logo, one that reflects the true mission of zer0share.

the project was a response to those who falsely claim p2p is used to violate copyright and little else; thus a p2p network where LOTS can be shared EXCEPT copyrighted material. i liked the little zero (0) in zer0share, thinking it gave a nice rise towards the middle of an otherwise all lower case word, adding energy and asymmetry like an eye that's wide open, and it reinforced the goal of a network with nil copyrighted content. however, it may also imply there is no sharing allowed at all, which is definitely not the case, nor the impression i want to give.

after some thought i incorporated the copyright circle itself into the logo. i'll play around with font sizes a little, because i still like the oblong swell in the middle, and i may be trading one problem for another, in that the C may be misinterpreted as a letter, but it'll look something like this:

zer©share

i think this says more clearly we don't swap copyrighted content.

I think that "zer©share" is a good idea, I like it.

The logo "zer©share" seems to more clearly convey the intent of the network than "zer0share".

Special characters that are not in common use are sometimes not represented by the same code across different fonts. I was initially concerned that the symbol may be represented by different codes in different fonts. I did some pseudo-random checking (Arial, Times New Roman, Microsoft Sans Serif, a few others) and this does not appear to be a problem. However, my test was not very scientific or extensive. The character seems to be farily well established at code 0xA9 (Alt+0169). [Chuckle] How appropriate that the code ends with a "69". The code seems situated soundly enough to be used in the network name.

In smaller fonts it may be difficult to recognize, but it probably will not be more of a problem than misinterpretation of the numeric zero in "zer0share" as an uppercase letter "O". I suppose the symbol could be mistaken for the "at sign" (@). Example: © vs @ The clarity between the two depends on the font and character size.

The only drawback is that the copyright symbol is not commonly assigned to a key on most keyboards (LOL, Unless you work for the RIAA/MPAA, in which case the copyright symbol and dollar symbol are probably the ONLY keys present on your keyboard).

We could instruct members to form the symbol by holding down the ALT key and entering the numbers 0169 on the numeric keypad. If the keyboard does not have a numeric keypad, the (Windows) character map function could be used. Cut/Paste works too.

sure, i can help. but first you'll need to check your waste version. i can get you in IF you use v1.0- v1.4. if you use v1.5 or higher you can't connect to this legacy 1.0 mesh, you'll have to get help from someone on the 1.5 network.

I was busy rebuilding my server so now Instead of doing this on my laptop I can now Have it on ALWAYS. (powerpermitting) I have a new key for the server just add it in and try connecting to WildcardUSA.kicks-ass.net and you should be fine if your key has been added. We run 1.5b2 version of waste and we dont use the new nightly build that just came out. As of this moment I have added Dream Catcher and Crow (who I know has issues at mirwin also) so If you need help I use Gaim (gaim.sourceforge.net) it is a multi client messenger. My AIM and YAHOO name is Wildcard1337 my ICQ# is 49314228 also my email Wildcard1337atyahoo.com so I if you cant get on after talking to me then you will never get on!!

hi vanguard, welcome to p2p-zone.

it's best to start by reading the beginning of this thread and then deciding what waste client you'll be using. the original legacy client or the latest one (they don't connect to each other). once that's out of the way, let us know how it goes.

i've added your key to the legacy mesh, go ahead and post your ip.
