Lightbulb The number of users for each program

According to the people at Grokster, they've been underestimating the number on Mor/Kaz/Grok.

"The new version has a better of way of determining the actual number of users on the network. The old client always underestimated this number."

Hey Napho, our resident inside man (morph db users should remember Jaan ?) on the old Morph discussion board forums told us constantly that the # of users reported in the client was always underestimated. That in fact, the total number of users on the fast track network was always closer to 1,500,000 not the normal 1/4 to 1/2 million most users were currently seeing on their screens.

This was information morph/kazaa then grokster always bragged about but everyday users never actually saw the proof of.

Say Wha?

None of my programs ever show as many users online as the rest of you guys. And I don't get near the search results either. Naturally.

Same as how on the KaZaA downlaod page, at www.kazaa.com

the numbers going that show the total downloads are purly fake. Its just a java script trick they are using, and has been counting since the site went up.

seems to be some mixture of astrology and good old USSR selection statistics:
  • 110% (rising) of all internet users are using kazaa net
  • they share more files than there is sand on the beach.
  • the numbers we show are only limited by 64bit arithmetics. as soon as we found a workaround we can show you much higher numbers.
whats more interesting to me - why does my morph client know that it's to old (like me too) even if i have pulled the network plug before startup?
