Default Alliance secure f2f

Anyone here tried Alliance? It seems pretty sweet. Kind of a competitor to WASTE - but so much more user friendly and sleek.

From the Alliance homepage:
"Alliance is a private and secure environment to share files and communicate with people you know. Alliance is open source and works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The Alliance network is completely decentralized."

Homepage:
http://www.alliancep2p.com/

Source Forge project page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/alliancep2p

What do you guys think?

i fired this prog up with a friend today...on the plus side, it connects easy, simple interface, got speeds between 50 kbs and 100 kbs. on the minus side, it's quite the resource hog...maxes out my 2.2 gig processor to the point where it's really not even practical to run it when i'm trying to do anything else.

that's too bad. was it idling or doing something temporary like hashing a share folder?

y'know, i thought it was choking my system both during and after hashing, but once i remove virtually all shared folders, it calms down. i may run it overnight, let it hash everything (coz hashing seems to be a mighty slow process), and see how it behaves tomorrow.

ok, let me know. it would mean a problem for shares but it could just be an inefficient hashing program. if it stabilizes i'd like to connect. with a few of us meshed it may make it easier for others to grab a node.

Basic encryption:
Quote:
Basic is VERY basic encryption. In the lines of XOR "encryption"

SSL encryption:

THEN you get AES 128bit.
"TLS_DH_anon_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA"

If you wan't 256 bit AES encryption (which is overkill) you'll need to edit the configuration file.
"TLS_DH_anon_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA"

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<settings>
<internal downloadfolder="c:\downloads" chipersuite="TLS_DH_anon_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA"/>
<my guid="-381696120" nickname="toni"/>
<friendlist/>
<server port="31239"/>
<sharelist/>
</settings>

i use java 6.0 and i when i try to connect i get following messages:

java.lang.NullpointerException
null (InvitationConnection)(/xx.xx.xx.xx:3181): null
(InvitationConnection)

your friend has his Alliance turned off or his firewall is blocking the connection

i read that Alliance uses java 5.0 by default and has problem with java 6.0.
...i don't wanna reinstall java 5.0 so i'm gonna wait for an update.
