Unhappy Certain lines that make you sad

I'm not talking about whole songs just the odd line in a certain song that affects you when you hear it...for example...

"We were raised on the space race, now they expect us to clean toilets"-----"Glory Days" by Pulp

"I think I did the right thing in slipping away"-----"Lazyitis" by Happy Mondays

"I ache in the places where I used to play"-----"Tower of song" by Leonard Cohen (theres quite a few good lines from that one)

"The moon just went behind the clouds to hide it's face and cry"-----"I'm so lonesome I could cry" by Hank Williams

"In 27 years, I've drank 15,000 beers and they just washed against me like the sea unto a pier"-----"Trains across the sea" by Silver Jews

Any other suggestions?

"I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,"

- Motorhead, 1916 (Album and song)

"For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me."

- And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, many covers, personal favorite the Pogues

"There's nothing so lonesome, so morbid or drear, than to stand in a bar of a pub with no beer" ;)
Pub with No Beer - Slim Dusty

"Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head,
And when I woke up in me hospital bed
And saw what it had done, well, I wished I was dead --
Never knew there was worse things than dying."
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Eric Bogle
Edit: That's spooky Malk, I hadn't seen your edit...it's a great tune. Redgum do it well too.

"Frankie kicked a mine the day that mankind kicked the moon,
God help me, he was going home in June.
I can still see Frankie, drinking tinnies in the Grand Hotel
On a thirty-six hour rec leave in Vung Tau
And I can still hear Frankie, lying screaming in the jungle
Til the morphine came and killed the bloody row.
And the Anzac legends didn't mention mud and blood and tears
And the stories that my father told me never seemed quite real.
I caught some pieces in my back that I didn't even feel
God help me, I was only nineteen."
"I Was Only 19" aka "A Walk in the Light Green" - Redgum

thats fucked up, i was about to paste from the same tune, pogues version

i will anyway, its a very sad song

So they collected the cripples, the wounded <and>
maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
<The legless, the armless>, the blind <and> insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where <me> legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
<And they> turned all their faces away

"I held her close I kissed her - our last kiss,
I found the love that I knew I had missed.
Well now she's gone even though I hold her tight,
I lost my love, my life that night."

- Pearl Jam, Last Kiss

Means a lot if you've ever be in a bad car crash and wondered if you would ever see your family and friends again.

Rush - Nobody's Hero.
http://www.lyricscafe.com/r/rush/107.htm

Whole song....
Reminds me of too many people.
First heard it a few weeks after my grandfather passed away.

I see a woman in the night with a baby in her hand
under an old street light, near a garbage can
now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
she hates her life, and what she's done to it
there's one more kid that will never go to school
never get to fall in love, never get to be cool

- Neil Young (and duo with Pearl Jam)

I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good
I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood

- Pearl Jam

I don't care if it hurts, I want to have control
I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice when I'm not around
You're so fuckin' special, I wish I was special

- Radiohead

Under the bridge downtown is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown I gave my life away

- Red Hot Chili Peppers

Leaving flowers on your grave show that I still care
But black roses and Hail Mary's
can't bring back what's taken from me
I reach to the sky and call out your name
And if I could trade
I would

- The Offspring

I looked into your eyes and saw a world that does not exist
I looked into your eyes and saw a world i wish i was in
I'll never find someone quite as touched as you
I'll never love someone quite the way
that i loved you

- Vast

Families being torn apart.
Doesn't have to be this way.
Some people, just have no heart.
It's happening every day.
Pure massacre, pure massacre...

- Silverchair

Cry

Sarah Mclachlan - "Do What You Have To Do"
and I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go
every moment marked
with apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
trying to escape this desire
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
the yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
but I have the sense to recognize

that I don't know how
to let you go
I don't know how
to let you go

Sarah Mclachlan - "I love you"
and I forgot
to tell you
I love you
and the night's
too long
and cold here
without you
I grieve in my condition
for I cannot find the strength to say I need you so

VAST - "Flames"
When I am with you
there's no reason to pretend that
when I am with you
I feel flames again
just put me inside you
I would never ever leave

VAST - "I'm Dying"
Not one day goes by
that I don't compromise you love
for the cold love of the world
it's killing me through
my own evil pride

Pearl Jam - "Black"
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll ever be...yeah...

Uh huh...uh huh...ooh...
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine

Aerosmith- Dream On
Tears and death. A classic but not one of their most upbeat.

Sing with me sing for the years
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

from:
Anachie Gordon- performed by many favourite is Loreena McKennit
"You that are her maidens come take me by the hand
And take me to the chamber that my love she lies in
And he's kissed her cold lips 'til his heart has turned to stone
And he's died in the chamber that his love she lies in."

Black Boys On Mopeds Sinead O'Connor

"Young mother down at Smithfield
5 am, looking for food for her kids
In her arms she holds three cold babies
And the first word that they learned was "please"...
These are dangerous days
To say what you feel is to dig your own grave
"Remember what I told you
If you were of the world they would love you""

I Am Stretched On Your Grave -Sinead O'Connor
"So I'm stretched on your grave
And will lie there forever
If you hands were in mine
I'd be sure we'd not sever
My apple tree my brightness
It's time we were together
For I smell of the earth
And am worn by the weather"

Lover You Should Have Come Over Jeff Buckley
"it's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
it's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
it's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
it's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever"

Tender Heart Roy Rogers/Norton Buffalo
"Young girl's heart
Is innocent and tender
Nothing brings it into bloom
Like the first time in love
Once it's broken
She'll never be the same
Her sunshine will be washed away with rain

And now,
Another tender heart is breakin'
Another precious moment is slippin' away
Another tender heart is breakin'
And it's too late now to stop the pain "

and a thousand others.........yes I'm a sook!

we have done everything we can
In the blood of Eden
so we end as we began

Default Corny lyrics on their own

but couple them with "that" voice................

Fool (If You Think It's Over)
(Chris Rea)

Dyin' flame, you're free again
Who could love, and do that to you
All dressed in black, he won't be coming back
Save your tears
You've got years and years

The pains of seventeen
Unreal they're only dreams
Save your cryin' for the day

Fool if you think it's over
'Cause you said goodbye
Fool if you think it's over
I'll tell you why
Newborn eyes always cry with pain
At the first look at the morning sun
Fool if you think it's over
It's just begun

Miss Teenage Dream, such a tragic scene
He knocked your crown and ran away
First wound of pride, and how you cried and cried
But save your tears, you've got years and years

(Fool if you think it's over)
(Fool if you think it's over)

.......that voice

I'll buy you first good wine
We'll have a real good time
Save your cryin' for the day
Fool if you think it's over
'Cause you said goodbye
Fool if you think it's over
I'll tell you why
New born eyes always cry with pain
At the first look at the morning sun
Fool if you think it's over
It's just begun

New born eyes always cry with pain
At the first look at the mornin' sun
Fool if you think it's over
It's just begun

I'm long since dead and I live in hell
She's the only girl that I love well
We were raised together and together we fell
God is what I make of him.

Palace Brothers - Riding

Sometimes I sit up in the darkness
And I watch my baby as she sleeps
Then I climb in bed and I hold her tight
I just lay there awake in the middle of the night
Thinking about a wreck on the highway

Bruce Springsteen - Wreck on the Highway

But now I'm sleeping fine
Sometimes the truth is like a second chance
I am the daughter of a great romance
And they are the children of the war

lyrics

And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you,
I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way.

If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.

Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried..

~ Famous blue raincoat
lyrics

And when I talk about therapy, I know what people think
That it only makes you selfish and in love with your shrink
But oh how I loved everybody else
When I finally got to talk so much about myself..
And I wake up and I ask myself what state I'm in
And I say well I'm lucky, 'cause I am like East Berlin
I had this wall and what I knew of the free world..

~ Dar williams lyrics

Same old song..
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind..
All we are is dust in the wind

~ Kansas
