fyi - there's an isp in washington state offering fiber optic to the home for $39.99 a month after a $150.00 set-up fee.
download speeds are 100Mbps - 75x faster than cable/dsl. you can d/l an uncompressed 4 gig dvd in 8 minutes, a typical 700 meg avi in 75 seconds, a complete uncompressed .wav cd in under a minute and a full mp3 cd in 5 seconds. nice. unfortunately the service has serious restrictions for now like automatic cutoffs every 8 hours and a 5 gig monthly limit but still, that's some highspeed broadband kemosabe, and once they raise that absurd gig limit perfect for all you little dvd'ers. - js. |
