Sudden jump in Users
Comments about napsterites using different p2p names from their board names.
I noticed a sudden jump in users on the Pommienet server, how many of these are Napsterites in disguise I wonder? Snark edit: removed attachment... please no IP addresses of private server users Snark, let's respect each other's privacy -tg |

as i mentioned a few posts back, we're in an open forum, so we'll pick up anyone who stops by and wants to d/l off our stuffed hds. as of right now we're at over 3gigs/user on both servers, still high for p2p but WAY DOWN from last week. if we start to see the share rates really drop we can go invitation only - address via pm. but in the meantime what say we enjoy our new guests.

The networks you mentioned are annoying, because they ARE private or restricted, and should not be listed in public directories. They just piss people off. If no one knows your server exists, and you want it that way, you can't really have unhappy potential users; there are none. |

Other files?
Schmooky said..... just dont forget to allow sharing of mpc files
I wish I knew what an MPC file was? I think most servers do not care what file types you share, they are rightly concerned about content of course, hence some do put limits on things like .AVI .MPG .DIVX etc. Generally its the client that imposes limits, but there are ways of getting round that anyway, just disguise all files as MP3, the classic method on Napster was to "Wrap" them, with a fake MP3 header, programs to encode & decode became quite sophisticated in the end, do a search with the key "Wrapster" and you will find all sorts. It's a bit of a chicken & egg situation though, you always need a decoder to start you off, at one tme there were sites available for downloading decoders, today most appear as "Wrapster" files anyway. Snark. |

>>>'Schmooky said..... just dont forget to allow sharing of mpc files
I wish I knew what an MPC file was?'<<< mpc (or musepack) is an alternative "lossy" compression format to mp3. the main difference between mp3 and mpc is that mp3 (along with ogg and aac) are all transform codecs, while mpc is a subband codec. when compared with mp3, mpc files sound more clear and crisp with higher tonal purity, less distortion, and no artifacts like pre and post echo (both of which are a big problem for mp3), and ringing-like artifacts at high frequencies also go bye bye |

Oh Gawd, not another format?

Ringing transients are a bit problem certainly on the lower sample rates like 32k used for the Old Time Radio and humour stuff, percussive and explosive artifacts always cause problems, needing editing at the WAV level which is time consuming. "Subband codec" Hm... better look that one up? Snark... |

Mmm..
Talking about file types, I share some mp3-pro files, How do you see that? They show as 96 bitrate. But they are mp3-pro. Now I write in the song name that it´s a mp3-pro. theflaco |

give us some names to search
Quote:
Can I have some examples to search for? Some servers are real fussy and reject files wih sample rates below 128k, I know that from experience wih my 32 & 64kbit humour files. I wish you luck: Of course the napsterite servers have NO SUCH restriction (I hope) Snark.. |
