See these eyes so green
I can stare for a thousand years Colder than the moon It's been so long Feel my blood enraged It's just the fear of losing you Don't you know my name? Well, you've been so long And I've been putting out fire With gasoline See these eyes so red Red like jungle burning bright Those who feel me near Pull the blinds and change their minds It's been so long Still this pulsing night A plague I call a heartbeat Just be still with me You wouldn't believe what I've been through You've been so long Well it's been so long And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline Putting out the fire With gasoline See these tears so blue An ageless heart that can never mend These tears can never dry A judgement made can never bend See these eyes so green I can stare for a thousand years Just be still with me You wouldn't believe what I've been through You've been so long Well it's been so long And I've been putting out fire with gasoline Putting out fire with gasoline It's been so long So long So long Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire) - Let's Dance - 1983 |

New fireworks over the Bhagdad sky!
there is a war
between the rich and poor a war between the man and the woman there is a war between the ones who say and the ones who say there isn't why don't you come on back to the war that's right, get in it! why don't you come on back to the war it's just beginning! well I live here with a woman and a child, the situation makes me kind of nervous yes, I rise up from her arms she says: 'I guess you call this love' ...I call it service why don't you come on back to the war don't be a tourist! why don't you come on back to the war before it hurts us! why don't you come on back to the war let's all get nervous! you cannot stand what I've become you much prefer the gentleman I was before I was so easy to defeat I was so easy to control I didn't even know there was a war. why don't you come on back to the war don't be embarrassed! why don't you come on back to the war you can still get married! there is a war between the rich and poor a war between the man and the woman there is a war between the left and right a war between the black and white a war between the odd and the even why don't you come on back to the war pick up your tiny burden! why don't you come on back to the war - let's all get even! why don't you come on back to the war can't you hear me speaking? STRANGE FRUIT
Southern trees bear strange fruit Blood on the leaves Blood at the root Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees Pastoral scene of the gallant south The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth The scent of magnolia sweet and fresh Then the sudden smell of burning flesh Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck for the rain to gather for the wind to suck for the sun to rot for the tree to drop Here is a strange and bitter crop Lyrics by: Lewis Anderson Originally sung by: Billie Holiday |

The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
Eric Bogle When I was a young man I carried me pack And I lived the free life of the rover From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback I waltzed my Matilda all over Then in 1915 my country said: Son, It's time to stop rambling, there's work to be done So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun And they sent me away to the war And the band played Waltzing Matilda When the ship pulled away from the quay And amid all the tears, flag waving and cheers We sailed off for Gallipoli It well I remember that terrible day When our blood stained the sand and the water And how in that hell they call Suvla Bay We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter Johnny Turk, he was ready, he primed himself well He rained us with bullets, and he showered us with shell And in five minutes flat, we were all blown to hell He nearly blew us back home to Australia And the band played Waltzing Matilda When we stopped to bury our slain Well we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs Then it started all over again Oh those that were living just tried to survive In that mad world of blood, death and fire And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive While around me the corpses piled higher Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head And when I awoke in me hospital bed And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead I never knew there was worse things than dying Oh no more I'll go Waltzing Matilda All around the green bush far and near For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs both legs No more waltzing Matilda for me They collected the wounded, the crippled, the maimed And they shipped us back home to Australia The armless, the legless, the blind and the insane Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla And when the ship pulled into Circular Quay I looked at the place where me legs used to be And thank Christ there was no one there waiting for me To grieve and to mourn and to pity And the Band played Waltzing Matilda When they carried us down the gangway Oh nobody cheered, they just stood there and stared Then they turned all their faces away Now every April I sit on my porch And I watch the parade pass before me I see my old comrades, how proudly they march Renewing their dreams of past glories I see the old men all tired, stiff and worn Those weary old heroes of a forgotten war And the young people ask "What are they marching for?" And I ask myself the same question And the band plays Waltzing Matilda And the old men still answer the call But year after year, their numbers get fewer Someday, no one will march there at all Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda Who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me? And their ghosts may be heard as they march by the billabong So who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda with me? |

•Monster•
Once the religious, the hunted and weary Chasing the promise of freedom and hope Came to this country to build a new vision Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope Like good Christians, some would burn the witches Later some got slaves to gather riches But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light And once the ties with the crown had been broken Westward in saddle and wagon it went And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean Many the lives which had come to an end While we bullied, stole and bought our a homeland We began the slaughter of the red man But still from near and far to seek America They came by thousands to court the wild And she just patiently smiled and bore a child To be their spirit and guiding light The blue and grey they stomped it They kicked it just like a dog And when the war over They stuffed it just like a hog And though the past has it's share of injustice Kind was the spirit in many a way But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping Now it's a monster and will not obey •Suicide• The spirit was freedom and justice And it's keepers seem generous and kind It's leaders were supposed to serve the country But now they won't pay it no mind 'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy And now their vote is a meaningless joke They babble about law and order But it's all just an echo of what they've been told Yeah, there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watchin' Our cities have turned into jungles And corruption is stranglin' the land The police force is watching the people And the people just can't understand We don't know how to mind our own business 'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us Now we are fighting a war over there No matter who's the winner We can't pay the cost 'Cause there's a monster on the loose It's got our heads into a noose And it just sits there watching •America• America where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters? Don't you know we need you now We can't fight alone against the monster Steppenwolf - Monster - 1969 |

I'm living but I'm feeling numb
Can see it in my stare I wear a mask so falsely numb And I don't know who I am Despite the worlds inside of me thwarting me away I've noticed in other eyes, time's closing in But when the thunder breaks It breaks for you and me Tarantula Tarantula Tarantula Tarantula The future's looking rather grim Strange black tide Decisions lie with stupid men alone with my life That choking and the hype in me expecting me to fall But only if I'm threatened will the tables turn But when the thunder breaks It breaks for you and me Tarantula Tarantula Tarantula Tarantula My world's under a sentence of death I was born underground But when the pressure gets too much for me I bite I bite This Mortal Coil (M.Young) - Tarantula - Filigree and Shadow - 1986 |

I used to be a baker man,
feeding all the world, with the bread of life, and living for my girl. Now all I need is a piece of life, and all I need is the time, and all I need is to hear a sound but all I go is down. I used to be a soldier boy, fighting for my world. A superficial cause, soon my fate was hurled. Now all I need is a piece of life, and all I need is the time, and all I need is to hear a sound but all I go is down. Dream of places I remember my Holy world’s my mind. See the faces my thoughts render, only visions of the blind. Now all I need is a piece of life, and all I need is the time, and all I need is to hear a sound but all I go is down. Heard of a van that's loaded with weapons
packed up and ready to go Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway a place where nobody knows The sound of gunfire, off in the distance I'm getting used to it now Lived in a brownstore, lived in the ghetto I've lived all over this town This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around No time for dancing, or lovey dovey I ain't got time for that now Transmit the message, to the receiver hope for an answer some day I got three passports, a couple of visas you don't even know my real name High on a hillside, the trucks are loading everything's ready to roll I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime I might not ever get home This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around This ain't no mudd club, or CBGB's I ain't got time for that now Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.? You oughta know not to stand by the window somebody might see you up there I got some groceries, some peant butter to last a couple of days But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones, ain't got no records to play Why stay in college? Why go to night school? Gonna be different this time Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard I can't write nothing at all This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around I'd like to kiss you, I'd love you hold you I ain't got no time for that now Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock we blended with the crowd We got computer, we're tapping pohne lines I know that ain't allowed We dress like students, we dress like housewives or in a suit and a tie I changed my hairstyle, so many times now I don't know what I look like You make me shiver, I feel so tender we make a pretty good team Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving you ought to get you some sleep Get your instructions, follow directions then you should change your address Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day whatever you think is best Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks? They won't help me survive My chest is aching, burns like a furnace the burning keeps me alive Try to stay healthy, physical fitness don't want to catch no disease Try to be careful, don't take no chances you better watch what you say Talking Heads - Life During Wartime - Fear of Music -1979 |

I was told of a place in a distant land
Where tortured souls often cried together in anguish And the scenes that were shown were of a cruel and violent nature Scenes of pain and cruelty were there to be seen The arena, the time and the place were set For all to watch and see I was told of a place in a distant land Where the oppressor ruled with an iron hand And of nations who sat in complacency Left cold and emotionless by history Scenes of pain and cruelty were there to be seen And all the while I should have known It was you killing me Somewhere east of Eden the designs will never change Infected through others fear The world stops at the end of the hall We watched the life force fade away The eventual price you will have to pay Once you are dead how could the children have known Dead Can Dance - East of Eden - Dead Can Dance - 1984 |

Cold and misty morning
I heard a warning borne in the air About an age of power Where no one had an hour to spare Where the seeds have withered Silent children shivered in the cold Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold I'll be there I'll be there I will be there Suffering in silence, they've all been betrayed They hurt them and they beat them, in a terrible way Praying for survival at the end of the day There is no compassion for those who stay I'll be there I'll be there I will be there There must be someone who can set them free To take their sorrow from this odyssey To help the helpless and the refugee To protect what's left of humanity Can't you see Can't you see Can't you see I'll be there I'll be there I will be there To heal their sorrow To beg and borrow Fight tommorow! ••• Man alone Born of stone Will stamp the dust of time His hands strike the flame of his soul Ties a rope to a tree and hangs the Universe Until the winds of laughter blows cold Fear that rattles in men's ears And rears it's hideous head Dread Death In the wind Man of steel pray and kneel With fever's blazing torch Thrust in the face of the night Draws a blade if compassion Kissed by countless Kings Whose jewelled trumpet words blind his sight Walls that no man thought would fall The altars of the just Crushed Dust In the wind No man yields who flies in my ship DANGER! Let the bridge computer speak STRANGER! LOAD YOUR PROGRAM I AM YOURSELF No computer stands in my way Only blood can cancel my pain Guardians of a new-clear dawn Let the maps of war be drawn Rejoice! Glory is ours! Our young men have not died in vain Their graves need no flowers The tapes have recorded their names I am all there is NEGATIVE! PRIMITIVE! LIMITED! I LET YOU LIVE! But I gave you life WHAT ELSE COULD YOU DO? To do what was right I'M PERFECT! ARE YOU? EL&P - Karn Evil 9 (excerpts from 1st and 3rd Impressions) - Brain Salad Surgery - 1973 |

Just as we hit the green
I've never been so happy to be alive Only seven miles behind You could smell the child The smell of the front line's survival With my silver Buddha And my silver bullet I pull the pin You learn to ride the Earth When you're living on your belly and the enemy is city-birth Who need radar? We use scent They stink of the west Stink of sweat Stink of cologne and baccy And all their Yankee hash With my silver Buddha And my silver bullet I'm pulling on the pin Ooh, I pull out, pull out the pin Pulling on the pin, oh Just one thing in it: Me or him. Just one thing in it: Me or him And I love life So I pull out the pin Just one thing in it: Me or him And I love life! I love life! I love life! I've seen the coat for me I'll track him 'til he drops Then I'll pop him one he won't see He's big and pink, and not like me He sees no light He sees no reason for the fighting With my silver Buddha And my silver bullet I had not seen his face 'til I'm only feet away Unbeknown to my prey I look in American eyes I see little life See little wife He's striking violence up in me With my silver Buddha And my silver bullet Just one thing in it: Me or him. Just one thing in it: Me or him And I love life So I pull out the pin Just one thing in it: Me or him And I love life! I love life! I love life! --Kate Bush - Pull Out The Pin - The Dreaming - 1982 |

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back Even while we sleep We will find you acting on your best behavior Turn your back on Mother Nature Everybody wants to rule the world. It's my own design It's my own remorse Help me to decide Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world. There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do I'll be right behind you. So glad we've almost made it So sad they had to fade it Everybody wants to rule the world. I can't stand this indecision Married with a lack of vision Everybody wants to rule the world Say that you'll never never never never need it One headline why believe it? Everybody wants to rule the world. All for freedom and for pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world. Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair |

Masters of War.
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead . Talkin' WW3 Blues Some time ago a crazy dream came to me, I dreamt I was walkin' into World War Three, I went to the doctor the very next day To see what kinda words he could say. He said it was a bad dream. I wouldn't worry 'bout it none, though, They were my own dreams and they're only in my head. I said, "Hold it, Doc, a World War passed through my brain." He said, "Nurse, get your pad, this boy's insane," He grabbed my arm, I said "Ouch!" As I landed on the psychiatric couch, He said, "Tell me about it." Well, the whole thing started at 3 o'clock fast, It was all over by quarter past. I was down in the sewer with some little lover When I peeked out from a manhole cover Wondering who turned the lights on. Well, I got up and walked around And up and down the lonesome town. I stood a-wondering which way to go, I lit a cigarette on a parking meter And walked on down the road. It was a normal day. Well, I rung the fallout shelter bell And I leaned my head and I gave a yell, "Give me a string bean, I'm a hungry man." A shotgun fired and away I ran. I don't blame them too much though, I know I look funny. Down at the corner by a hot-dog stand I seen a man, I said, "Howdy friend, I guess there's just us two." He screamed a bit and away he flew. Thought I was a Communist. Well, I spied a girl and before she could leave, "Let's go and play Adam and Eve." I took her by the hand and my heart it was thumpin' When she said, "Hey man, you crazy or sumpin', You see what happened last time they started." Well, I seen a Cadillac window uptown And there was nobody aroun', I got into the driver's seat And I drove 42nd Street In my Cadillac. Good car to drive after a war. Well, I remember seein' some ad, So I turned on my Conelrad. But I didn't pay my Con Ed bill, So the radio didn't work so well. Turned on my player- It was Rock-A-Day, Johnny singin', "Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa, Our Loves Are Gonna Grow Ooh-wah, Ooh-wah." I was feelin' kinda lonesome and blue, I needed somebody to talk to. So I called up the operator of time Just to hear a voice of some kind. "When you hear the beep It will be three o'clock," She said that for over an hour And I hung it up. Well, the doctor interrupted me just about then, Sayin, "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams, But mine was a little different you see. I dreamt that the only person left after the war was me. I didn't see you around." Well, now time passed and now it seems Everybody's having them dreams. Everybody sees themselves walkin' around with no one else. Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time. But all the people can't be all right all the time I think Abraham Lincoln said that. "I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours," I said that. -bob dylan- |

Shoot High Aim Low
We hit the blue fields In the blue sedan we didn't get much further Just as the sun was rising in the mist We were all alone we didn't need much more So fast this expedition So vast this heavy load With a touch of luck and a sense of need Seeing the guns and their faces We look around the open shore Waiting for something Shoot high break low Aim high shoot low Break high let go Shoot high aim low This was to be our last ride With the steel guitar and the love you give me Underneath the skin a feeling, a breakdown Well we sat for hours on the crimson sand Exchanges in the currency of humans bought and sold And the leaders seem to lose control Shall we lose ourselves for a reason Shall we burn ourselves for the answer Have we found the place that we're looking for Someone shouted "open the door" Lookout Shoot high break low Aim high shoot low Feeling of imagination Break high let go Shoot high aim low Shoot high aim low Nothing you can say Shoot high let go Takes me by surprise Shoot high aim low Who says's there's got to be a reason Shoot high let go Who says there's got to be an answer We were all alone, we didn't need much more Shoot high aim low The sun's so hard on this endless highway Shoot high let go Shoot high aim low I've heard the singers, who sing of love Shoot high let go In the blue sedan we never got much further Shoot high aim low Yes |
