Gerry Studds (D-Mass), was found by the House Ethics Committee to have engaged in sexual relationships with adolescent pages - he refused to apologize for any impropriety (he turned his back in contempt as the article of censure was being read on the House floor), but went on to serve six more terms in Congress until voluntarily retiring in 1996.

Congressman Mel Reynolds (D-Ill), who was convicted of corruption and of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old campaign worker (and sentenced to seven years in prison), was pardoned in 2001 by outgoing President Bill Clinton.

oh and Good riddance, Mark Foley---

Well, with a name like Studds....

It's looking very much like the press is selectively omitting details in their reporting on Foley; it seems the really dirty messages only went to adults but reporters are inferring it went to minors.

At any rate there was nothing physical going on and the media and democrats are looking ridiculous for sqealing like it's bloody murder.

...correct in that it actually does not meet the definition of pedophilia (13 and under for that) - but that they were minors does not seem to be in doubt:

ABC News reported more instant messages between Foley and former pages from 2003 on Tuesday, including one in which the legislator put off voting on the House floor until he had finished online sex with the high school student.

After both describe having orgasms, ABC reported, Foley messaged "I better go vote. Did you know you would have this effect on me?"

I guessed," the boy replied. "Ya go vote ..."

"Can I have a kiss goodnight?" asks Maf54, identified as Foley's instant messaging ID.
no Democrat, on his worst day, ever looked more ridiculous - but it's nice that you're okay with all this.

edit: so where was he actually spanking his monkey - right on the House floor? in the cloakroom? the mind reels...

When I hear "cloakroom" I think of JFK's escapades; but you go ahead and enjoy speculating about a man masturbating.

"Lawyer David Roth told reporters in Florida that Foley was intoxicated when he sent lewd electronic messages to former House pages but was always sober when conducting official business during his 12 years in Congress. Roth said he could not explain new reports of an exchange in which Foley appeared to be having Internet sex with a youth while participating in a House roll-call vote."

studds was censored, clinton impeached (for lying about legal sex no less), reynolds sentenced to prison and served nearly four years, and the republicans did nothing to foley. actually that's not entirely correct. they protected him. thank you sinner.
