I like LeecHammer alot for WinMX--in fact, it's made WinMX not only usable again, but fun.

leeches bother me more in theory than in practice. yes if someone's downloading from me it would be nice if i could download from him, it's only fair. i've noticed tho that i usually don't download from my connections because even if they're not leeching and have plenty o’ files, they don't have what i'm looking for.
in winmx's case my problem has always been hours of coma inducing queues that keep me from ever getting the file i’ve queued, and i don't see leechhhammer (or anything) fixing that situation. but if something does i’d like to be among the first to use it. - js. |

I hear what you're saying JS.
To me winnies' biggest faults are (in no particular order): 1. leeching 2. long ass queues 3. weee bit of a memory hog I look at innovative little programs like leechammer as a step in the right direction. Perhaps, if more people are forced to share (amongst their peers) - the more people will share (even if it IS begrudgingly) some decent files. Most people use winnie only as a last resort because the leech/queue problem is such a drag. If more people can assert some control over who gets their shares (and the way they get them) and more people realize that sharing is a 2-way street, the more files will become available from a wider range of sources (hopefully the end result being a lessening of the queues). Dunno Jack - just my thinking out loud (long night last night with little sleep today). |

Mind if I think outloud?
I have gotten exactly ONE movie from winmx. ONE. No more. They always sat there queued. Never moved at all. Not one bit. On the other hand, I have gotten around 175 dvd rips (and I'm guessing. Ask napho for the exact number; he knows my puter better than I do) from emule and edonkey. Screw winmx

All I download is movies nowdays. Each time I mention an album I want, it somehow magically shows up on napho's wwwfileshare, so I don't need to look for music anymore.

Actually, I'm just the opposite. I download tons of movies, but don't sit still to watch them. I now have 70+ unwatched dvd rips.

Thing about WinMX (later versions) is, I can be sharing hundreds of files but show up as sharing zero. Therefore, I would be on the bad end of this prog just because of a probable fuckup in the WinMX software (which I hope they have resolved as of late). Hmmm...

how is it that winmx can display 100s - even 1000s of returns, and not download one single file, while something like soulseek can return just 2 or three hits (or hundreds) but successfully download every one? i think it's a protocol/handshake issue. i have a hard time believing that winmx has a monopoly on leeches. afterall, they go where the files are just like you and me. - js. |

I am now officialy on a crusade!
I'm sending all my "generous" users to the LeecHammer site... Let's see what the reaction is The theory goes: start @ the top & work your way down, might even get something right. U never know... |

The problem with the LeecHammer program, from reading their website, is that it uses up a lot of the computer's resources. So I won't bother with it because I have an old computer that can barely handle WinMX. I leave my computer on continuously, so that even if half the people are leeches, that's still an accomplishment. Now that you guys are turning away the leeches, they are coming to me for their Eminem files.
Leeches need loving too. Have you hugged a leech lately? |

Holy Shite!!
What a wonderful nick name "Brute_Force" That fits LeecHammer wonderfully...
My Thanks to Goldenrod for pointing me to Leechammer... Sliced bread has definately taken a lower place in the Q now !! Quote ON Now that you guys are turning away the leeches, they are coming to me for their Eminem files. Quote Off Well that is about the best bit of news Yet... Just goes to show what a load of shit-heads Eminem fans are... Still a shit-head performer deserves shit-head listeners, so fairs fair.. leave them to their misery.. Don't care what you Say... Leechammer is the Biz for sure, as one poster said .. it has made running WinMx a DREAM, and a dam good entertainment too... Set the sound up loud, and the neighbors think I got a pinball machine in my workshop.. So, WinMx (hurry up and fix the leaks, and sort out the protocol problems, ... Hint!! you forgot about the network lag problems) Then you will have the TOP program, while you are at it, give us some "Hooks" to allow user addons, properly, instead of having to fudge it via the Winblows API (crap interface) Snark... (With his new Teeth) Greeting to all my old friends out there... |
