from their website:
Fri, Feb 1, 2002 1450GMT We are currently recovering from a major winter ice storm that hit southwestern Ontario yesterday and last night. All our services are now back online but we will not be releasing the next beta revision until sometime early next week due to continued power outage at our offices. Please be patient. Ice is causing trouble everywhere it seems...... |

Well, its been good so far. Installed quickly, connected right up to WPNP, no crashes and since the files are limited, kept the searches basic to come up with a decent search result. Did not try the opennap yet. I rarely use them in WinMX anyway but will copy them to the new app and see how it goes.

WinMx Vers 3 Beta1 more obs
I have had a few successful downloads and uploads on both the WNP and the OpenNap networks (Posix, Neccesary, Xanax) so far, the beta seems stable, provided you don't try silly things like trying to sort an incomplete search list.
If you install 3.0 and still have 2.6 in your machine, you seem to lose all references to any incomplete downloads, these vanish as far as 2.6 is concerned, and appear to be reformatted intol the new verson 3.0 partial completed file index format, so if you have a lot of incomplete stuff in 2.6, save the incomplete text file and the partial files away somewhere else first. The dat and system files associated with 3.0 are now in compressed format, whereas those for 2.6 were in readable text format. In fact there are only tow readable files in the system, one of those is the licence aggreement. A quick (very quick) look at the executable shows it to be in compressed format too, well large parts off it are. An Annoying feature is the lack of primary connection ability on cable, if you run a CPU lower than 350 Megs, which of course I do on most email and music servers. (Little point is chucking away a 850meg Athlone just for email) I suspect this will be hackable somewhere in registry, as yet I have not found an entry for any such parameters. I shall be installling a fresh version on another PC shortly, a simple registry save, before installation, and again after, both captures then being inspected with FCU should reveal new keys and entries. More later... Snark. |

Beta 4
First things I noticed:
It seems they are finally adding some of the functionality missing from previous betas, like auto-retry/resume and search for more sources. I was beginning to wonder when that would happen, if at all. Stoepsel
