President Bush said the public's decision to reelect him was a ratification of his approach toward Iraq and that there was no reason to hold any administration officials accountable for mistakes or misjudgments in prewar planning or managing the violent aftermath.

so, it doesn't matter how bad the planning, how skewed the intelligence, how many people get killed, how many billions we spend, how many years we get mired in Iraq for, or what a stupid decision it was in the first place - all that counted was that the prez got re-elected. therefore, everything he does is ok....and by extension, everything anyone in his administration does is ok and nobody's accountable for anything. he's right - he wrote a blank check against the future of the country and the public was stupid enough to sign it. case closed.

"We had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 elections," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post.

so he's basically saying that the election validates anything he does - so much for acting on principle
