The Qube supports FastTrack +Gnutella
as well as it's own network. They're on the right track even though their program was weak in the past.
http://www.getqube.com/ The future of file-sharing lies in your reach with a brand-new program called The Qube. Working on a state of the art network and other networks such as GNutella, The Qube delivers maximum amounts of files straight into a friendly, skinable interface. Also, The Qube has features that you can’t find anywhere else, such as the SHOUTCast Radio Tuner, rich-text instant messaging, and dockable windows with features such as a media player and user list (buddy list). It also houses many features that can be found on other networks, such as swarmed downloading. The Qube now supports KaZaA and Grokster along with its existing network and GNutella. |

Thanks for the info, napho!
The initial feedback on Zeropaid is somewhat harsh but as you say they are on the right track. A little correction: I think Qube supports OpenFT protocol which is the open source spinoff from the FastTrack protocol (continuation of the giFT project) but it cannot connect to the Kazaa/Grokster network due to their recent protocol changes. Anyway it is great to see the first OpenFT Windows clients appearing. These early versions are bound to be buggy and may not even support multisourcing but after a few iterations they will get there, providing an excellent free alternative to the commercially geared Kazaa/Grokster network. - tg |

I just read what they said at Zeropaid but to the contrary this doesn't seem to be too hard on the RAM at all, about 11MB. However I can't seem to connect to much either automatically or manually.

The KazaaLite icon for mp3s? Interesting, did you do that or the Qube?

After reading the feedback from the giFT developers I think this is not a client to recommend, at least not at this stage. As the giFT protocol is still undergoing active development and frequent upgrades any developers using it in their clients should really co-operate with the giFT developers at SourceForge which seems not to be the case here.

This client seems to be incompetent and a rogue in the P2P community.
Little wonder it's Osama bin Laden's favourite. |

Cube Removes Open FastTrack Support
Wednesday March 27, 2002 After the tremendous uproar from the giFT developers, the Cube creators have removed support for Open FastTrack. The Cube developers could've saved themselves a tremendous amount of embarrassment if they would have listened to the giFT team. "As said before, giFT/OpenFT is in development and not even ready for a public beta release. We state this very clearly, but still Qube has ignored the developers." Here's the official statement from The Cube: Notice: Due to legal concerns, gIFT has been removed from The Qube as of Beta 11.5. The installer for this new beta will remove gIFT support for The Qube from the user's computer automatically without causing any damage to other software on your system. People are advised to upgrade to 11.5 so that further problems do not occur. gIFT support for The Qube was not directed to harm the OpenFT network and was completely unintentional. gIFT will hopefully return in later versions of The Qube. If you must use this P2P application, get the "upgrade" here. |

Aww... that was the only windows gift client, wasn't it? It doesn't work anyways, takes up 90% of my 800 mhz cpu, then crashes.
