Can you come up with a reason why Govm't workers are ...
allowed to vote?
All they do is vote their paycheck. U know, up taxes so they can get a raise. Seems a conflict of interest to me. I wonder what would happen if all gov peeps went on strike for a year or two? Like, what do they do anyway? Not much that I can see. I'm talking all city, state, fed, school & exclusive gov contractors. Like, what do they do anyway? Shoot our kids in the eye? Give reasons why they can't put the fire out? Attempt to explain why students can't learn like they used to? Gov workers just can't get the job done. Don't let them vote us (the real producers) into poverty. GET MEAN

This is irrational. If they went on strike for an extended period of time, you'd have garbage piled up to heaven. Causing health hazards that wouldn't be handled because the health department workers aren't working. Your sewage would back up into your house. Your children wouldn't be educated. All the public health care facilities wouldn't be able to provide for needy people.
And I doubt if I even scratched the surface on reasons. It's just a stupid thought to believe they vote only to benefit themselves. You posted this at another forum and I didn't answer because it was so asinine. But by posting it again here makes you seem foolishly serious. |

On the planet where most of the rest of us live, there's this pesky little document called the constitution. Since you're clearly unfamiliar with this exotic artifact, you might want to read and ponder the significance of its 15th amendment, as a sort of get-to-know-us exercise. Of course this is not to say it solves all our problems either. For instance most people believe that their votes actually matter, in spite of the fact that losers of the popular vote are sometimes put in office. BTW, he almost had me fooled too RoBoBoy, but great, subtle, intellectual comedy writers like nic always give you a little key line, like: Quote:

Dawn, just curious: do you just lurk in Political Asylum and post only once in a while or do you only read this forum once in a while?

I'm not gonna pick on u Dawn but if U went on strike either you would get what U wanted or U would be replaced.
Now... about sewers and roads. Private Companies do most of the work anyway. They do ALL of the new construction. I'd think if they built it they could maintain it. When you think about what our govmnt is good at, it isn't much other than making and collecting fees/taxes. Why not just eliminate the middleman and wack most or our silly bureaucracy. It would be cheaper to keep them on the payroll (dole) but not let them go to work and spend even more on their "needs". It's a sad, sad thing what our government has evolved into.

My city owns 2 dump trucks 1 back hoe My city is a maint crew who maintains the infrastructure not build it Common sense will tell you that a fiscally responsible city will hire out the big jobs so they don`t have the overhead of all the big ticket item equipment. Plus the cost to maintain them ... think for a min |
