Can you help me in my research on P2P file-sharing?
First of all, let me introduce myself: my name is Albert Such. I am
sending this e-mail as part of a research project tha I am undertaking as part of my PhD studies at the Open University of Catalonia (http://www.uoc.edu/doctorat/eng/index.htm). The goal of the project is to understand how the adoption and usage of P2P file-sharing technologies affects the traditional way of creating, distributing, protecting and getting benefits from creative content such as music and video; and what are the positions and expectations of "the P2P community" about the issues of copyright, fair use, legal status of file sharing... As part of this research, I am conducting a series of e-mail based interviews with persons who have been, in any sense, involved in the development and adoption of P2P filesharing technologies or who are active in the defense of the usage of these technologies against the latest legal actions taken by entities such as the RIAA and MPAA. I expect that answering this short interview will not take much of your time and would be very helpful in my research. I am not asking for any specifically "private" information, but in any case, I ensure you that any information gathered will be kept strictly confidential. Because this is the first interview I am conducting on these issues, questions are rather open and general as I am still trying to understand how to focus my investigation, so I will also appreciate any comments, questions or suggestions on how to proceed with the project. You cand send your responses and any other comments to asuch@uoc.edu Thanks in advance for your help Albert Such Interview --------- 1.- how would you define your involvment in the "P2P filesharing community"? 2.- What is your position and opinion regarding the appropriateness and legallity of sharing and downloading copyrighted content using P2P technologies? 3.- what is your opinion regarding the legal actions that industry associations such as RIAA and MPAA have taken against some users of P2P file-sharing applications? 4.- what should be the response, if any, of the "P2P file-sharing community" against these actions? 5.- what do you think will be the effect, if any, of the adoption of P2P file-sharing technologies in industries such as music and motion pictures? 6.- do you have any other comments or suggestions related to these issues that you would like to share? --- Albert Such asuchv@uoc.edu Student in the PhD Program on the Network and Information Society |
