New Azureus version introduces decentralized torrents
Java-based Azureus is one of the best BitTorrent clients, and it is clearly under active, interesting development. The latest version 2.3.0.0 introduces some nifty new features, including support for trackerless, decentralized torrents and graceful decentralized swarming in situations where a tracker happens to go down.
What's new in 2.3.0.0: Quote:

fuck the update, stay with 2.2.0.2
I tried 2.3.0.0 and got nothing but problems. I opened Azureus and it told me about an upgrade, so i clicked ok, the download and install went smooth and the client was restarted. Upon restart i was greeted with another pop-up box telling me about more files needed for the upgrade....at this point things went wrong. No torrents would stay connected....i would get peer and seed information but never connect for more than a few seconds to anyone else. The problem was so bad that the second set of update files would not download...thousands of seeds and peers and it wouldnt keep a connection. I figured that something had gone wrong during the upgrade, so i uninstalled the program and downloaded the 2.3.0.0 win 32 installer from http://azureus.sourceforge.net/index.php After a fresh install of the latest client, i got the same problem of not being able to keep a connection to anyone (the tracker was always fine) From here i decided to go back to 2.2.0.2 and use a version that actually worked. |

I've read that some of the problems with the Azureus update are java related, and that updating java to the latest version can straighten things out.
I still prefer ABC 2.6.9, which is based on BitTornado. Less features than Azureus but the upstream capping is more stable, a steady line with no spikes, so I can almost use my full upstream without interfering with the downstream. The more upstream I can allocate, the faster the download. As far as features are concerned, the only feature I really want is a fast download |

Today I tried to download a torrent but couldn't connect to the tracker, it kept timing out. That was using the old version. I upgraded Azureus and tried the torrent again and even though it still couldn't find the tracker it managed to find every peer in the swarm using DHT, and only six of them were actually using Azureus 2.3.0.0.
Awesome. |
