Songs About Dreams or Dreaming
#9 Dream
So long ago Was it in a dream? Was it just a dream? I know, yes I know It seemed so very real, it seemed so real to me Took a walk down the street Through the heat whispered trees I thought I could hear (hear - hear - hear) Somebody call out my name (John) As it started to rain (John) Two spirits dancing so strange Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé Dream, dream away Magic in the air, was magic in the air? I believe, yes I believe More I cannot say, what more can I say? On a river of sound Thru the mirror go round, round I thought I could feel (feel - feel - feel) Music touching my soul Something warm, sudden cold The spirit dance was unfolding Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé John Lennon (1974) According to John, "Ah! böwakawa poussé, poussé" doesn't mean anything, it is just a phrase that came to him in a dream and he decided to base a song around it. (although the word "poussé" translates from the French as meaning roughly "thorough") Of course many Lennon fans also noted that some elements of this song seemed eerily precognitive after he was shot to death on Dec. 8th, 1980, as his killer "called out his name" ("Mr. Lennon" as opposed to "John") just before shooting him three times as he "took a walk down the street" near his NYC apartment. John also had a well known fascination with the number nine. Strangely this song, the weird verse of which has nine syllables, was released on John's ninth solo album Mind Games (9 letters) on the ninth month of 1974 and went to number 9 on the charts of that year. Many have also noted that John was shot at 11 P.M. on Dec 8th, at which time it was already Dec. 9th in his hometown of Liverpool. 1980 is also, numerologically speaking, a "number 9 year": 1+9+8=18, 1+8=9 |

American Dreaming
I need my conscience to keep watch over me To protect me from myself So I can wear honesty like a crown on my head When I walk into the promised land We've been too long American dreaming And I think we've all lost the way Forlorn somnambulistic maniacal in the dark I'm in love with an American girl Though she's my best friend I love her surreptitious smile That hides the pain within her And we'll go dancing in the rings of laughter And live along by the shores Forlorn in the bowels of rapture Asleep alone for the lost* Yeah-ee, on the lea the rising wind blows Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows How long how long? Forlorn in the grounds of allegiances we've left behind Turned back by the foot of the doorway Never lost and found We've been too long American dreaming I think we've all lost the heart Forlorn somnambulistic maniacal in the dark Yeah-ee, on the lea the rising wind blows Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows How long how long? Dead Can Dance * that's the best translation i can make of these two lines, and i challenge anyone to do better. i hereby claim my 100 ramona points - 400 more and i can claim a napster t-shirt, you know. |

That's a best guess at what Brendan Perry is singing from the live Dead Can Dance album Toward The Within, Kento. An exceptionally beautiful album.
Astral Traveller And in the ruins of the balloon Stood a man with glasses held high Wondering when to do it again Have another fly into the sky Somewhere flying high Astral traveller Leaving without her Wondering where lights go Leave out the body load Once in the air, people who dare Get great respect in being (Astral traveller) Heavenly flight wondrous night And all the sights worth seeing Just believe in Astral traveller Leaving without her Wondering where lights go Leave out the body load Yes - Time and a Word (Jon Anderson - 1970) |

Talking Heads
Dream Operator When you were little You dreamed you were big You must have been something A real tiny kid You wish you were me I wish I was you Now don't you wake up The dream will come true Every dream has a name And names tell your story This song is your dream You're the dream operator It's bigger than life You know it's all me My face is a book But it's not what it seems Three angels above The whole human race They dream us to life They dream me a face And every dream tells it all And this dream is your story You dreamed me a heart You're the dream operator Shake-it-up dream Hi-di-ho dream Fix-it-up dream Look at me dream I've been waiting so long Now I am your dream Hard to forget Hard to go on When you fall asleep You're out on your own Let go of your life Grab on to my hand Here in the clouds Where we'll understand And you dreamed it all And this is your story Do you know who you are? You're the dream operator And you dreamed it all And this is your story Do you know who you are? You're the dream operator |

Silent Lucidity
Hush now, don't you cry Wipe away the teardrop from your eye You're lying safe in bed It was all a bad dream Spinning in your head Your mind tricked you to feel the pain Of someone close to you leaving the game of life So here it is, another chance Wide awake you face the day Your dream is over... or has it just begun? There's a place I like to hide A doorway that I run through in the night Relax child, you were there But only didn't realize it and you were scared It's a place where you will learn To face your fears, retrace the years And ride the whims of your mind Commanding in another world Suddenly you hear and see This magic new dimension I- will be watching over you I- am gonna help you see it through I- will protect you in the night I- am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity -spoken during solo- [Visualize your dream] [Record it in the present tense] [Put it into a permanent form] [If you persist in your efforts] [You can achieve dream control] [Dream control] [How's that then, better?] [Hug me] If you open your mind for me You won't rely on open eyes to see The walls you built within Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin Living twice at once you learn You're safe from the pain in the dream domain A soul set free to fly A round trip journey in your head Master of illusion, can you realize Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but... I- will be watching over you I- am gonna help to see it through I- will protect you in the night I- am smiling next to you.... |
