The ID assigned is based on several factors. The main factor is the ability to connect as freely as possible. This is where you will need to have your firewall/router etc. set to allow the needed port. This link may help you a little?

There is no way that I have heard of to fool the ID status.

Some ISP's mainly in the UK are blocking popular ed2k ports "4662"

Ed2k is a network for people with patience. Don't expect lightning fast speeds. Mine typically run around 20Kb as a total between all files. In plain english it will take about 1-2 days to download 700mb if there is alot of sources. But there has also been times when I have gotten a full cd in about 6hrs averaging well over 100k.
