Hi - The term Gateway can mean lots of things, so your best option would be to seek clarification from the person you were talking to.

The ISP that connects the user to the internet is sometimes known as a gateway.

A gateway can be a node on a network that serves as an entrance to another network.

An application proxy is sometimes known as an application gateway: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/appl...n_gateway.html

A company called Gateway make computers, so he could just mean he has a Gateway computer: http://www.gateway.com

Routers are sometimes known as gateways.

He might have meant any of those things. And there are other possibilities too. Best to seek further info from whoever you were talking with.
