Why is it ok for the IDF to open fire in crowded streets to kill militants? From September 2000 to Aug 2002, a total of 1,700 Palestinians and 600 Israelis had been killed. Most were civilians. In Israel, most deaths were caused by suicide bombers, at the same time, military incursions into the West Bank and the reoccupation of Palestinian towns and cities by the IDF resulted in heavy loss of civilian life. More than 100 children were killed, not in crossfire between Palestinian and Israeli forces, but mainly when the IDF randomly opened fire or shelled civilian neighbourhoods; over 20 children were killed "collaterally" in the course of the assassination of militants.
Since the beginning of this month, March 2004, Israeli forces have killed 44 Palestinians, including women and children. According to data from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the Ministry of Health, 30 Palestinians were killed in Gaza and 14 in the West Bank. Among those killed are 18 minors. More than 197 Palestinians, mostly children, were wounded in the same period. In February 2004, Israeli forces killed 52 Palestinians. Since the beginning of 2004, Israeli forces killed 128 Palestinians.
International law prohibits without exception, the extra-judicial killing of protected persons. Israel's policy of assassination clearly amounts to intentional or wilful killing, which constitutes a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and is subject to international criminal prosecution. The UN is weak so they can not enforce this law, but they have meetings and do shit like vote on resolutions knowing they will be vetoed to give the illusion like they care.
