I get a lot of cookies from doubleclick also. I believe they come from the pop up window ads that a lot of websites have, and possibly even the embedded ones. If I remember correctly doubleclick use to have their own website. Anyone who visited them and did anything on their site were tracked, tag, and basically spyed upon. When the public found out about it their website went under. Well, this is all second hand knowledge so it might not be that accurate.

So I guess now they work for ad companies by providing them information about what their customers are interested in. This is a shame because legitimate advertising is what will keeps the internet mostly free. Adding spyware to ads is counter-productive. A lot of users are already cautious about the internet.
